Description

Description

The "187" series of folders, named for the 3/16" stock used throughout, is Medford's lower price-point offering for those who want more than one Medford knife. If you are saving for the penultimate custom MKT blade or holding out for the Praetorian Ti, then we have something to tide you over. For the rest of us (who want to remain married) this series gets you a hand-made American knife, with rugged uniqueness that is truly American...every blade is absolutely unique. To maintain this amazing price-point, there are no customizable options.

The 187RMP is the smallest folder Medford offers, but still a substantial tool compared to other knives. The Ramp Nose style blade is absolutely functional and looks mean. The dual sub-hilt composition of the handle and blade offer superb grip comfort for all uses. This model offers a man a compact knife, with as much blade as possible, crammed into the tidy package. When carrying a real knife is a must, but size, weight and space are a concern, the 187 RMP has no equal.

The knife features a black G-10 handle, tumbled titanium frame lock and a D2 steel blade with unique Vulcan finish. No two blade finishes will be the same and it will vary from the one pictured. Some are dark, some are light and some are multi-colored.

This is an excellent utilitarian knife. Feels great in the hand, blade deployment is smooth, can handle many tasks. The knife is "American Made", the quality of materials and the craftsmanship is second to none.

Everything about this knife, resulted in retiring my Hinderer and Chris Reeve knives. In fact, I placed an order for another one!
Love this "little" guy

I very rarely write reviews, but I am so impressed with this knife, and Medford’s customer service I feel compelled! I will start by saying this knife is a tank with it’s .187” scales and blade! It is something I have had to get use to, but it fits perfect in my large hands. The first thing I noticed about this knife is the beautiful Vulcan blade, I really lucked out, mine has A LOT of color.

The next thing I noticed is the razor sharp-mirrored edge… I own quite a few knives to include a handful of customs, and this is by far one of the sharpest “out of the box” knives I’ve owned! Unfortunately my happiness was short lived, as my 187RMP had horrible lock stick, it latterly took two hands to close. I called Amy Medford, told her that I was the second owner and of the issue I was having. Amy told me to send it in and she would take care of it. Even though I was the second owner I was only charged shipping, and they covered the repair work under warranty! Amy was great; keeping me informed throughout, she had my knife on it’s way back to me within 48hrs! When I received the knife back the timing and lock up were perfect, after a small “break in” period it is buttery smooth! Fight the urge to lubricate, follow Greg’s instructions and you will not regret it.

This is by far the smoothest knives (not on bearings) that I’ve owned, "Spyder Flipping" is not a problem with this guy.. The Detent is great! Also the blade being hollow ground it is a heck of a slicer, but robust enough to be a real work horse! Give it a chance, and don't make a full judgment until it's fully "broken in"

What to say about this knife, is very well done, allthow no fine finishes, definitely have to break it out , I personally like knives that can be disassembled with simple tools, this is not the case because the manufacturer does not like and avoid the warranty, so this hinders the fluency of this knife initially, it comes very tight from “factory”, mine comes with 3 bronze washers on one side and 1 on the other, they used washers as“ liner washers” to center the blade ?, never before seen this practice in other manufacturers.
Extremely sharp out of the box and also with polished edge,I love the appearance of this knife , blade design is wonderful and unmatched beautiful Vulcan endless, it´s fill great in hand when placing your finger in the first choil.
A special knife

Fantastic knife, I love it. Compact handle, but very comfortable to hold due to its width and choil. Very early lockup, nice detent and some small touches that make it feel like special blade (hidden blade-stops, vulcan finish blade, beautiful pivot).

I bought this, and a Hinderer XM-18 3.5. The Hinderer is going back.
