Description

Description

Microtech has updated the venerable Ultratech knife for 2015! While the dimensions and action remain the same as the previous model, this latest version features the effective, visually stimulating "tri-grip" texture. Further enhancements include beveled edges, a modified thumb slide, tri-angle hardware, and an everyday-friendly glass breaker tip. The end result is an impressive Ultratech that improves upon what has become the must-have OTF automatic.

This Ultratech has a satin finished drop point blade with a plain cutting edge. Its black anodized 6061-T6 aluminum handle has bead blast finished pocket clip, glass breaker and stainless steel hardware.

For those unfamiliar with the Ultratech, it's a fully automatic knife with a double-action out-the-front mechanism, meaning the thumb slide deploys the blade and retracts it as well. The Ultratech knife from Microtech has set the bar for all OTF knives.

Love this knife, but I will admit that the gnarled handles are far too aggressive for the pocket clip to be useable. I took the clip off of mine, and now only carry it loose in the pocket. As an "in the pocket" knife, this is an exceptional knife all-around!

Other than the overly aggressive texture, the knife really is great. Fires very nicely both opening an closing, with a strong spring that won't break your finger.

Came decently sharp, but once the factory edge gets a little more used, I will be sending it out to get re-profiled, as the factory bevel was slightly uneven at the heel of the blade, but that is extremely common even in this price range and certainly not a detriment.

Overall, I am more than pleased, with the minor exception of the pocket clip.

I'll definitely be getting another Microtech OTF here very soon, but sticking to the regular handle designs from now on.
