Description

Description

Microtech has updated the venerable Ultratech knife. While the dimensions and action remain the same as the previous model, this latest version features the effective, visually stimulating "tri-grip" texture. Further enhancements include beveled edges, a modified thumb slide, tri-angle hardware, and an everyday-friendly glass breaker tip. The end result is an impressive Ultratech that improves upon what has become the must-have OTF automatic.

This Katana Series Ultratech has a two-tone, bronze patterned drop point blade with a plain edge. Its black anodized 6061-T6 aluminum handle has a bronze finished pocket clip, glass breaker, and hardware.

For those unfamiliar with the Ultratech, it's a fully automatic knife with a double-action out-the-front mechanism, meaning the thumb slide deploys the blade and retracts it as well. The Ultratech knife from Microtech has set the bar for all OTF knives.

I just bought this knife from Blade HQ and I must say, it's amazing. This is admittedly my first OTF knife but I can't imagine a knife in this price range being any better or nicer (as far as OTF's are concerned). I was a little concerned because I had always heard people talking about all OTF's having some blade play and I didn't know what to expect, however, when I fired it the first time I was amazed that it had a tiny bit. Almost none, and when you shake the knife there is no rattling sounds or cheap feel... everything is solid as a rock.

The bronze elmax blade with the hamon print is beautiful and doesn't look cheap at all. The tri grip texturing on the scales are a bit aggressive and may be hard on pants when wearing the knife all day and drawing it constantly (as you will want to constantly pull this knife to play with it and show it off). That being said, you're not going to drop the knife for sure and it allows you a firm grip to fire the blade.

The action is so much better than the other Microtech that my friend has that was made in 2010. His knife requires the use of two thumbs nearly, in order to retract the blade. This one is firm but not hard and can be done with minimal effort, yet there's no way the knife is going to deploy on accident.

Overall I'm extremely pleased with this purchase... I'm addicted to Microtech OTF's now and I plan on buying many more in the future. My new EDC piece.

This was also my first order from BladeHQ and it definitely won't be my last. My order shipped extremely fast, even right after the holiday season, and I requested signature confirmation during the checkout process as my mail tends to get delivered to the wrong address often and they actually read my request and added it to my shipping with no additional fee's. I also asked a question via email before my order shipped and got a response within 24 hours and then got a follow up email in another 24 hours or so asking if my question had been properly resolved. Great and prompt customer service!

Thanks BladeHQ for a quality knife and a quality customer service experience.
