There’s no doubt that butterfly knives are freaking amazing—even people who don’t flip can appreciate the skill it takes, and they stare in awe at master flippers. Where you’re at in cultivating your flipping skills will probably determine the type of butterfly you want, though. Experience, price, and expectations will all factor in as you look for the right butterfly for you.

Here are a few great options to consider if you’re in the market for a new butterfly, or if you’re simply looking to expand your collection. They fall into two different prices ranges. The first is a huge bang for your buck, and the second butterfly is one to consider if money isn’t really an option and you want to get one of the best butterflies out there.

Bang for Your Buck

Exiled Cutlery Cyclone

The Cyclone isn’t a budget butterfly (it’s 63.99 shipped), but you get a lot of quality with it, and it is a huge bang for your buck. This butterfly is light (3.0 oz.), has a decent steel (AUS 8A), has extremely smooth action, and it is made in the USA.

Great Overall

Benchmade 51

This Benchmade 51 is significantly more expensive than the Cyclone, but like pretty much everything in life, you get what you pay for. Though this knife is on the pricey side, it is a phenomenal butterfly knife, and it’s a Benchmade so you know it’s going to be a good product. It weighs 3.30 oz., and it has excellent action and solidity.

What butterfly do you flip with?
