The Calypso C54GPBN is a Sprint Run release of the original Calypso with an earth-brown G10 handle and a VG-10 steel blade.
The Spyderco full-sized C54 Calypso was initially released in the mid-1990s and later discontinued. The original gave rise to several Calypso variations including numerous smaller Calypso Jr. and Caly3 and Caly3.5 models.
The large Calypso archetype is a contrast of opposites. It offers an elegant gents profile, combined with a large, work-ambitious blade. The lengthy blade tapers into a handle with enough girth to comfortably fill a meaty-sized hand, yet it remains lightweight due in part to its G-10 handle and full skeletonized liners. Designed to carry slim and close to the body, the handle rides flat, nestled to a hip when clipped in a pocket by way of a 4-way stainless pocket clip embellished with a Spyderco bug.
Its VG-10 stainless steel blade is flat-ground and has a swedge grind along the spine. Also positioned on the spine is a "cusp" directly above the Spyderco Trademark Round Hole¢ to provide reliable thumb placement for accurate and precise cutting control.
Accentuating the fine fit and finish is a sanded spine and stainless handle rivets. Elegant, large, powerful and elusive, the C54 Calypso is back, but not for long.
