This knife is on me every single day and never leave home without it. Love the weight behind it, it feels sturdy and love the length of the blade.
Picked up a Fact from BHQ recently. Very happy with this unique offering from Benchmade. Fit and finish are excellent. This slim knife really disappears in your pocket too. The only shortcoming is the pocket clip retention is a bit looser than my other Benchmade knives. I'm also quite happy with BHQ's free two day business shipping. The only thing better than free shipping is fast, free shipping. Great service as always.
I have several Benchmade knives. I have Contegos in M4 and M390, these are my EDC but they are big, heavy knives. I like that the 417 can go in dress pants or nylon fishing shorts very comfortably. Since this is not a work knife and is only for defensive use, I put an asymmetrical edge on it, 15 degrees one side, 12 degrees the other. This makes for a thin but razor sharp blade. The S30V holds a fantastic edge.
Have knives from many different companies but this was the first Benchmade that compelled me enough hit the checkout. Long and thin knives appeal to me and this doesn't disappoint. Good centering, razor sharp, aggressive grip texture, and really great looking proportions and blade shape. Action came a bit stiff but really broke in buttery smooth and lives up to the hype of the axis lock action. Takes up little pocket space to be great for EDC but large and piercing blade profile for potential self defense.
The Fact makes a good self defense EDC knife. It is thin and rides in all but short pockets with ease. The steel liners add weight, but the cutouts in the handle help reduce the weight a bit. The cutouts also contribute to gripping the knife and manipulation. The handle texture is fantastic, very grippy. The Axis lock on this knife is well implemented (especially for such a narrow handle). Great blade to handle ratio, seems better than most Benchmades. As a Black Class knife it is not a knife for flipping on the bus. But it is serious and stout. My only complaint is the lack of jimping on the handle. There is good jimping on the blade, but with the long handle it is too far forward for me.
I have a couple Benchmades in my collection and this one is my favorite. I would recommend this knife to everyone. If you’re thinking about buying one you won’t be dissapointed.
This came to me as a perfect example of fit and finish, which people tend to complain about with Benchmade. I have tons of them, and I love the “Fact” that I am not only able to tinker, but seems that I am encouraged to do so by Benchmade. Back on topic, the Fact is perfect. The sound it makes opening it is unlike any other Benchmade I own. If you’re reading this, then you are likely thinking about purchasing one. Do it. Thank me later.
I received my first production run Fact yesterday from BladeHQ. Benchmade has hit it out of the park with this knife. It is much more impressive than pictures suggest. Here's what I found: 1. The blade is perfectly centered. 2. The blade grind is perfectly symmetrical. 3. The blade edge is perfectly symmetrical and even from tip to heel and sharp for a factory edge. 4. The action is superbly smooth. The knife flies open with a muted click and easily flips shut. No adjustments required. 5. Lock up is rock-solid - zero blade play in either direction. 6. There are no cosmetic flaws anywhere. 7. The aluminum scales are well-conceived - attractive and very functional. The edges are nicely chamfered, eliminating any potential "hot spots," something that can sometimes be a problem on a handle this rectangular. We'll see how the knife performs over the next few months, but my first impression is that Benchmade has done a spectacular job with the Fact. And BladeHQ held up their end, as usual. The knife made it to me in three days (Utah to Michigan) after BladeHQ debited my account. Impressive performance by a company that deserves your business.
Great construction, nice general design and blade shape, sharp edge. I like to fidget flip knives, and a knife like the Bugout lets you do that all day long. This one, though, has a small pointed flair at the bottom of the scales that creates a hot spot with your palm when one-hand closing the axis lock. After about 3 flicks, it becomes rather uncomfortable.
Of all benchmade knives I own, this one came with the best centering and lockup with no side to side play, like my other ones have. I don't bring it anywhere because it is so long, thin, and stabby, but it is great for use in the home.
