My first Benchmade Griptilion. The first thing I noted was that the knife exudes quality. The feel is high quality indestructibility. Not sure about the whining of the other reviewers about the plastic handles.. guess they were looking for a display case knifes.... this is a use it and enjoy it knife....the look and feel great.. I think it is an awesome every day carry knife that you donít need to worry about dinging up... put it to work, as it is meant to be used. The axis lock is very smooth, and the knife opens like an automatic, with a flick of the wrist (donít take to NY... sorry guys in Cuomo land).... get it and use it. You wonít be dissapointed if you want a working knife that will last and last...

First off I never understood why others paid so much for a benchmade till I owned one, even then I thought it was pricey. So this is my first purchase of a benchmade previously owned one was from work. Blade came very sharp and was done perfectly, grip which I am used to is comfortable despite the horrible plastic feel of the handle. The reason for 3 stars vs 5 is the quality control sadly not on the blade and most likely 1 in 100 type issue but the axis lock portion on mine was not good. If you opened the blade to hard or just sprung the axis lock up it would stick as if the top portion was to narrow and lock it in place. First time I got it really locked I needed a punch to undo it. I noticed on a weekend so no one to contact till Monday. I bruised my fingers lubing and trying to work the lock over and over again to make it work at least to the point where I could use one hand. My impatients led me to using a file and some sand paper to fix the issue which it has for the most point. It still sticks a bit, but I can use one hand to close it now at least, but I expected more from any blade that is 100+. If my fix had made it smooth like my old one I would have given it 4 despite the inconvenience, but since it still sticks a bit I only gave 3.
Good starting Benchmade

I have had mine for over 2 years now and it is a good knife. The axis lock makes the knife extremely fun the open and close. However, this is a Benchmade knife. That means your paying around double of what the knife should actually go for. The handle is admittedly very strong and sturdy but has a cheap plastic-like feel to it. The tanto blade itself is absolutely beautiful. If you plan of getting a Griptilian I would highly recommend the Tanto style. Its slightly more aggressive then the other blade styles available but it will make you knife look awesome. I do not like the steel for the blade as it lacks some blade retention.

This knife does come with the benchmade "Life-sharp" warranty which means the they will sharpen it for "free" for life. All you have to do is pay for shipping. This would be amazing but the one time I sent my Griptilian in to get sharpened, they kept it hostage for just over 2 months.I only got my knife back (given razor sharp) after about 5-6 angry calls and a handful of broken promises about the return date of my knife.I finally got my knife back when I asked for the manager and he agreed to overnight my knife, as well as throw in some "benchmade Bluelube and cleaner" for my troubles. That was the final lie I was told as I did get my knife the next day but have yet to see the bluelube and cleaner over a year later, even after many emails... (I have not used the warranty since then)

*note that some people have had better experiences with the warranty than I have had. If it wasn't from my bad experience I would have most likely rated this knife as 4 stars*

This is an awesome knife! It is my first benchmade and definitely not my last. The blade comes razor sharp out of the box and the knife flicks nice and smooth. The axis lock is amazing but does stick a little however it quickly breaks in and is silky smooth. The handles are a lighter nylon however I do not feel as if they will break. The tango blade looks awesome and is great for cutting pretty much anything. I would highly recommend this knife as your first benchmade!

The grip...what more is there to say?

The tanto shape is definitely an interesting permutation, I find it very useful for opening boxes and breaking them down.

The handles are rather thick, and it's worth noting the tactile feedback of the knife is...distinctive...to say the least. Many say it feels cheap, and I tend to agree. However they are decently grippy (what would the name be if it weren't) and plenty strong. Decent enough for a hard use folder anyway.
