this knife is okay. still can't beat a vintage Schrade SharpFinger Knife

Very functional
Ross B. on Aug 5, 2021

I'm a hunter and a martial artist. The minimalist Persian is a very functional EDC fixed blade knife, but it is a budget knife and that gives it some cons. Pros: Very comfortable in the hand, shaving sharp out of the box. Cons: For a neck knife, the sheath retention is atrocious. The steel is lower quality steel so it is pretty soft. We bought two of the Persians and both fell out of the sheath on the first day we wore them. One went tip down into some concrete and took some minor tip damage, the other fell out while I was working in the yard and it took a while to find it. I'm currently carrying mine in a pocket carry configuration with an Ulticlip putting some extra pressure on the lip of the sheath and I'm quite happy with it there.

Very cool

I’ve have owned a couple knives from the minimalist series. The Bowie and blacked out clever, carry the clever daily as of lately. Safe to say I’m a fan most def, when I seen the new Persian I had to have it. Arrived today and without a doubt a very cool knife. I can easily see this becoming my go to EDC. Swapped the green G-10 handles with the black from the clever. Looks much better in black. The only cons I do see so far are sheath retention. I did notice when taking off the handles that the pegs were a little beat up, like someone didn’t notice the half circle shape and just tried to shove it through but Doesn’t take away from the function so no worries really. But it definitely doesn’t not stay pressed into the sheath quit as well as the other blade styles I’m familiar with. Already had it fall out and hit the floor so gonna have to find a way to keep that from happening again. A little rough around the edges in some spots but the overall cool factor out weight any negative for sure. A few minor adjustments and it would be 10/10 out the box. Only a few minor adjustment and this is a hard knife not to fall in love with for sure. P.S came razor sharp 🤘🏻

Great Knife, Very Poor Sheath Retention.

Alan Foltz said this is his favorite Minimalist design and I agree. Grind is straight and symmetrical, factory edge was quite sharp, everything is tight. 8Cr is a welcome upgrade over the 5Cr used for most of the Minimalist line prior to this. The knife itself is fantastic. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the sheath. For reasons I don't understand, in order to accommodate a straight draw with the raised thumb ramp, they cut out a 1/3" segment of the top of the injection molded sheath. I assume this was to quiet all the people who complained that you had to observe a specific angle to re-sheathe the earlier Keramin model. While it certainly makes removal and re-sheathing easier, this comes at a massive cost to retention. The knife comes out of the sheath with extremely little force, and what's worse, it will come out when pushed/pulled on both rearward AND upward directions. It's fortunate I intended this for pocket carry, where so far the retention has proved just BARELY adequate to keep it from coming out of the sheath inside my pocket (though I have had times where it was loose when I removed it), but under absolutely no circumstances would I neck carry this. It's a great knife, but this is an astonishing safety fail. I will attempt heating the injection molding and trying to tighten the retention of the sheath manually, but looking at the geometry of how the knife is held in the sheath, I doubt that will be successful. The problem seems to be with the sheath design itself. I expect in the future to have to ultimately make the decision to get an aftermarket kydex sheath for it, or consign to desk work and occasional light pocket carry. It's a shame. CRKT was so close on this one.

Carried for a few days before reviewing
Nick W. on Jul 10, 2021

I like the design of this knife, blade shape is great and came hair splitting sharp out of the box. It’s a little smaller than I thought it would be, adding a half inch in to both the blade and handle length would make this thing a lot more comfortable for my hams. The real downside is the handle scales, they are extremely loose on the knife and all 4 screws came stripped from the factory. I can’t tighten them at all and if I even mess with them they will fall out and the scales will fall off. I contemplated sending it back but honestly at the price point it’s not really worth it to me so I’ll just keep it and use for emergencies. Not the EDC neck knife I was hoping for.

Blade cracking
Kyle G. on Jul 11, 2021

I’m not sure what you call this but about a half an inch down from the tip there’s a huge crack that’s following down the blade, maybe a half an inch like the edge is going to start popping off. You kinda expect a knife to never fail but I haven’t even used this one and it’s already messed up. As a whole the minimalist knives are superb but this one having a huge crack from the get go makes this one in particular a one star.
