Cold Steel has made a name for themselves by creating high performance folders like their Recon 1 tactical folding knives. This model adds to the already over-engineered Recon folder by outfitting it with a USA-made Carpenter CTS-XHP steel blade that offers superior edge sharpness, retention, and toughness. In addition, the blade has a durable black DLC finish. The Recon 1 utilizes Cold Steel's Tri-Ad Lock and strong, lightweight G-10 handles for unbelievable strength. Ambidextrous lock design, thumb stud openers, and a reversible pocket clip.

Itís ok

The knife feels pretty good in hand. But isnít the most usable knife I have. Itís also harder to open and close. You can get way better for this much money
Solid Work Knife

I have owned and carried this knife on and off for the past year and a half and it has proven itself to be a solid workhorse. As it came from the factory, it was apparent that there were some slight quality control issues. Although the knife was adequately sharp, the bevel was noticeably asymmetrical, resulting in a tip that appeared slightly canted to the right. This didnít bother me too much as I intended for the knife to serve in a heavy utility role and wasnít too concerned with aesthetics. Additionally, there was an audible rattle coming from somewhere within the knife. Disassembly of the knife and a thorough oiling and cleaning reduced the noise. In terms of performance, the knife has not disappointed, especially at the price point. The steel on the upgraded CTS-XHP model has demonstrated an impressive blend of edge retention and toughness. I would say that I have abused this blade putting up drywall and cutting carpet. The edge was easily brought back to razor sharpness with light touching up on medium to fine stones. The handle of this knife is nicely contoured and offers excellent purchase on the knife. I am a fan of aggressive G-10 texturing, and this knife certainly offered an excellent traction plan. The only downside is that this traction (partnered with a tight pocket clip) will shred your pockets over time. This knife also sports the well-known TRI-AD lock design. The lock was stiff when the knife arrived, but it has worn in nicely. Overall, a super sturdy knife with a very capable design.
Fantastic ergonomics

The handle is an aggressive G10 that ensures the knife stays in your hand at all times. It feels great in various grips.
This knife is a tank!

The sturdiest folding knife on the market, no doubt about it. I would trust my life to this knife. Its not that great at slicing but it makes up for it in sturdiness! I sometimes prefer this knife over some of my fixed blades.
Best hard use knife.

Light and strong. Spent a couple years beating the crap out of it and no worse for wear. By far best knife for daily use I own.
A Great Companion

This knife borderlines the tactical and practical. The clip point is very handy as an edc and food prepping on the field. The edge is hair shaving sharp out the box and extremely robust at the spine, this thing can handle abuse. I've used this on multiple camping trips and botanic lab test, each time it delivered. The AUS 8 softer steel is easy to resharpen and retains an edge quite well. The G10 handles feel extremely sturdy and solid in the hand but does add weight to the overall knife. The aggressive G10 patterns on the handle will eat away of your pant pockets, so when wearing slacks you may want to leave this knife at home. Despite its small 4 inch blade length, the added handle adds alot of reach and can be used as a tactical option. The black over coat of the blade will scratch off with use, but its to be expected. Great buy and overall knife for every collector and user to buy.
