The ESEE 4 is a dyed-in-the-wool survival knife. In fact, it might be the bar by which all survival knives are judged. Combining a stout blade stock and a tall flat grind, the knife can bust through your toughest batonning jobs and still slice a tomato without any trouble. As tough as it is, it's also compact and light enough to not bear you down on the trail. Whether you're a hunter, a camper, a bushcrafter, a prepper, or anything of the sort, an ESEE 4 is a worthy companion!
ESEE Knives are made in the USA and offer the most thorough warranty on the market. They're built for a lifetime!
I've owned this knife for about a month now and have used it mostly for cutting up chicken as I am in college and have not had a chance to use it outdoors and truly test it yet. However, this is why I went for the 400C version, so I could use it, clean it quickly, and put it away without really having to worry about wiping it down to a great extent. It slices through chicken with an extremely clean cut, which surprised me considering the width of the blade. It is not the most ideal for this use for sure, but it definitely has proved itself for this multiple times. It is still sharp enough to cut hair after using it a few times. The micarta handle is simple and one of my favorite materials for a knife and it came flawless. The jimping on the back of the blade actually has a decent amount of grip on it. I've seen some people complain about the sheaths but I have none so far about mine. It is tight and also has no flaws in it. Take all of this with a grain of salt since I haven't beat up heavily on the knife yet. Overall I love this knife and am happy I bought it.I will be buying more ESEE products in the future.
I bought this knife as a gift for a friend but like most toys I had to play with it a bit to make sure it was worthy. Sure is! Thick tough blade and good grip on the handle. I hope it is a daily carry for the Swedish park ranger that is about to receive it. BTW it is now on my wishlist.
This knife feels so well balanced and fells great in the hand. I opted for the 440c stainless version so i don't have to worry as much about corrosion when i'm out and about. Blade shape and size are just right for my hands. Others have commented about the sheath but i personally like the way its made, it isn't kydex but it is some form of hard plastic and the retention is great.
When you see the thick blade on this knife and the tang through the micarta handles you know you can be confident in it. It is grippy, but doesn't leave your hand sore after extensive use. It's has enough of a blade as well as the heft needed to baton and chop, but the contours allow you to choke up on it for finer tasks. It was also one of the sharpest knives I've received out of the box. I always carry it when I'm out backpacking in the Rockies. Thanks blade hq!
Great beater! I know others want bigger for survival, but this is my perfect size for an all around knife. Fits comfortably in my hand, and I can work with it for hours without feeling hot spots. It can do it all: chop, baton, carve, cut food, process game, defend, throw sparks (after grinding the spine), and look good too! Love the micarta handles. The sheath is okay... I’ll get a custom one down the road. 440c is great for me!
Well...I really like the knife. Absolutely five stars for the knife alone. However, the sheath is HOT GARBAGE!!! I can't believe I paid extra for the sheath. Not only is the sheath flimsy plastic...the posts that attach the belt loop or molle backing are plastic. The instructions for the sheath say to use Loctite. However, the directions on Loctite say not to use with plastic. I took a chance and used Loctite. The whole thing self destructed and I almost lost my knife in a lake 48 hours after receiving it.
