This Covert Auto model has a black finished CPM-S30V stainless steel blade with a partially serrated edge and a black aluminum handle.
The Gerber Covert Auto is an evolution of the Applegate-Fairbairn folder with the addition of fast automatic action at the press of a button. It has an over-sized release button for easy deployment even with gloves. A front mounted safety engages in both the open and closed positions for secure carry and use. The Covert features aluminum scales with grip enhancing grooves and stainless liners to assure the rigidity of the handle. Its removable deep carry clip allows convenient and discreet carry. Comfortable, practical, and reasonably priced, the Covert makes an excellent tactical knife choice.
this has to be hands down the most underrated auto. This knife just feels like it wants to do your bidding. Fast auto, great grip, and utilitary blade.
Received this knife with minor scratches and discoloration on the blade. Contacted customer service and they were extremely helpful. Emailed me a postage paid return label and sent me a new one .Great company to deal with. Well made knife, fits my large hand perfectly. One of my favorites.
Blade HQ customer service is FANTASTIC! I've been happily carrying the assisted open little brother to this knife for a while. This knife is a VERY nice upgrade. Razor sharp S30V blade, aluminum grip/handle, light weight, snappy opening and solid lock-up, great balance and fit/feel in the hand. What else could you want. This is THE knife of last resort!
Just got my Covert in the mail today after ordering it friday. First blade in S30V. I'm not usually a fan of serrations but on this knife it's not bad. Deep carry clip is great.
Soooo nice for the money. Highly recommended! I bought 2 I like it so much. Very solid, super sharp, fires hard.
But 5 stars anyway, Works well, sharpens well. Putting an edge on top side just for opening letters, not to sharp but just right. The reach it gives is very handy. This was a gift from Judy, that I plan to keep, till I ware it out. Shipping was as expected. Box was slightly crushed, but knife had no damage.
I have four of these that I use for the pockets of jackets. That way I’m not rotating, I won’t say I haven’t opened a letter or box but I make the effort not to. It deploys quickly and comfortably.
I Just wanted to thank blade hq for the awesome products/service. I just got my gerber earlier than expected and the knife is amazing quality and value for the price. Definitely recommend it.
I whole heartedly agree with the other reviews. Great affordable auto by Gerber made in the USA! Can't beat the price for this value. Razor sharp, smooth opening, and sturdy. Plus the convenience of the safety. Thx BladeHQ.
Update: I've lived with my Covert Auto for nearly a year now -- it STILL does everything most of us need an EDC to do. And yes, I continue to believe this A/F Gerber is an unbeatable value. BUT -- it's a bit tricky to sharpen (30 degree included!). So go slow and carefully! Still...Totally recommended!
this was my first order from blade hq,,,first one they sent me was a return,,,belt clip bent,,,box destroyed,,,scratches on handle,,,contacted them and a replacement was sent after i was told i had to pay first,,,still waiting for the refund,,,knife was delivered to them 5 days ago,,, other then that customer service was excellent,,,,i love the knife,,,very tight,,,when i get the refund for the returned knife all will be good....
I know it's a modern knife, but it's feel will make you feel like a WWII, OSS agent. In other words, I love this knife.
Outstanding auto from Gerber. Made in the USA and the quality is far better than the Chinese made assisted version. Feels well balanced and good in the had. Top choice for a smaller personal defense knife.
I couldn't resist this knife. It looks like something a cold war era spy would have. I would have given it a 5, but the safety switch feels a little flimsy and cheap to me, and there's a little more play on the blade than I would have expected for a knife at this price. Maybe I just got a lemon. Another minor complaint is that it would have been very easy for Gerber to add a tip-down carry option. It's a very good looking knife and it feels very good in the hand. The choils aren't very deep, but the jimping is so aggressive that it doesn't feel like there's any chance of your hand sliding onto the blade. The weight and balance of the knife are very satisfying, True to the name, it's very hard to tell that it's a knife when it's clipped to your pocket. Good choice for city dwellers in places where autos are legal.
Good quality knife/excellent value. Great look, functions well, reliable company. These are in lock step with BM autos (minus exotic steel/materials and a few minor details you'd have to be holding both to notice.) Rides low in pocket without the bright white Gerber logo. Welcome addition to my collection. Add to your MUST PURCHASE list. This is a 4.75 STAR knife Only 4 star rating: Handle is smallish, slick and requires an unsure grip when opening.(Paramedic with big hands, so knife used as a tool and potential defensive weapon. Either way not dropping the knife when deploying is not my focus.) Also, clip was 'sprung' (not tight) out of the box.
I live in a state where automatic knives were illegal for many years. They were recently made legal to own and carry. For years and years I would look at the Gerber Covert Applegate/Fairbairn auto and dream I could legally own one. I ordered one a few weeks ago. When it arrived, it was bittersweet. Right out of the box there were two scratches on the scales. The box was still intact and appeared unopened. So I'm guessing the handle damage was done at the factory. Other than that, the blade is great. The lock for the open and closed position is a great feature. I would prefer tip up carry, but I can live with it. I won't be returning the knife because it's one I've always wanted to own. I currently carry a Fox 599 Karambit and a SOG Aegis tanto. The Gerber won't replace either of those as a daily carry. But I am glad I own one.
Good quality blade. Great deployment speed and lock up. This knife could be improved by making the clip in a tip down configuration with left and right hand options.
Super slow deployment and a dull factory edge. Even on sale, ehh’, nah’. It’s a shame really. Great hand feel, appearance and design. I truly wanted it to work, Gerber got me started with folding EDCs a VERY LONG TIME AGO, but, to me, they’ve lost their mojo. As usual BHQ hooked me instantly with the return.
