With the Bareknuckle, Kershaw wanted to revive the popular ZT 0777 design with a sturdy U.S. build and a slimmed down profile. It offers upgraded blade made from Sandvik 14C28N steel for a hard blade with excellent corrosion resistance. Matte gray anodized aluminum handle scales provide a sleek, sophisticated look and employ the patented sub-frame lock for secure blade lock up. An oversized pivot and a stainless steel deep-carry pocket clip complete the stellar 7777 design.
Features:- Sub-Frame lock bar provides solid blade lock up and a lightweight build.
- KVT ball bearing pivot provides smooth, rapid blade deployment with the aid of a flipper opener.
- Deep-carry pocket clip is reversible for right or left hand tip up carry.
Customer Reviews
Those two non-issues aside, it's a pretty nice knife. The sheepsfoot blade is well-shaped for slicing. Mine arrived sharp and perfectly centered. The deep-carry pocket clip is nice. It's narrow and light for a fairly large knife. It's comfortable in the hand. I have no problem with one-hand opening and closing. The 14C28N blade steel is IMO pretty meh and I'd prefer (at least) D2 or 154CM at this price. 14C28N is very similar to AUS8. It takes an edge fairly easily and holds it better than other Sandvik steels (i.e. 8Cr13MoV etc.). It's just rather marginal for a $75 knife, I feel.
All things said, while it doesn't challenge ZT or Benchmade for EDC it's a nice-sized, well-designed knife I'm not reluctant to carry for just about any job...I'll just need to sharpen it occasionally and I need to improve my skills anyway.
Pros:
-Blade steel (it's way under-rated, closer to S30V than the budget steels)
- Ergonomics - feels really nice in hand
-Fit and finish are impeccable
Con
-As most reviewers say, the pocket clip. It's too small for a knife this size. Security is good, but the recess necessary to make it secure makes it difficult to clip inside your pocket.
All in all, I am thrilled. This is my fifth Kershaw/ZT knife in the last ten years, and I will keep buying from them!
Very lightweight, with deep carry pocket clip. Definitely worth the price!
Detent is good, but not as tight as I've been hearing. Maybe I got lucky? Lock up is solid, bearings are super smooth, drops shut with a little shake. Pocket clip is a little tight, but I can give it a little bend and fix that, not the first time. But it works well and looks great.
Only issue was the edge. Kershaw messed up by the tip (overground one side) and a few spots in the blade weren't apexed. No big deal, I got to work with my Lansky and put a good 15 dps bevel on there, and then took it over the top with my Sharpmaker. Takes hair off and whittles hair no problem. Haven't seen if it will shave newsprint, but I think it will... Haha!
Overall, worth the price. It's really one of the best values out there for an American made knife! If you can sharpen you may have to fix the edge, or maybe I got a Friday knife? Either way, I sorted that, and it's a favorite knife now. Would like to see some different handle colors (blue like the link??) I'd grab one in a heartbeat!

Detent is very strong, it is breaking in nicely so far. This thing feels like its a quality knife, not like my other Kershaws that feel all plasticy. Definitely cuts great, as it came razor sharp. I love the keep carry clip, though this too is very stiff and can take a bit extra to get it into my pocket.
The flipper tab is average size, compared to all my other flipper knives. Action is great even after initial break-in which most knives have.
I am loving this aesthetics, you could set this out next to my ZT's and it would fit right in.
Overall a great knife especially at this price point.
Good Ergonomics. Lightweight. 14c28n steel. WAS perfectly centered.
Cons:
Blade steel isnt marked on the blade(not sure why they arent advertising the upgraded steel when they advertise 8cr13mov on most of the cheaper Kershaws). Like other reviewers, mine has a ridiculously strong detent, granted it is a sub-FRAME lock, so you have to be careful not to put pressure on the sub-frame lock when opening it, which is a bit difficult as the knife isnt very wide, but even so the detent is very strong, and the awkward position of the flipper tab(very top of the handle) make it that much more of a challenge, only an issue because of the strong detent though, not unusable but not enjoyable to open. Tried taking it apart to clean and lubricate but like cheaper Kershaws, its not meant to be taken apart, srews had strong white thread locker on them, sheared off the tip of my T6 bit trying to get the final screw off(figures) so put the other screws back in and just oiled it. After failed disassembly couldnt get it perfectly centered again without bearings not touching the blade.
