Kershaw's most recent automatic knife offering, the Launch Series, is simply superb. These knives have a compelling design, fast action, high-performance materials, and they're made in the USA!
Each of the Launch models features a stylish and unique integral backspacer pattern where the two pieces of aluminum connect with the USA flag laser-engraved on the back side of the handle. In tandem with the reversible tip-up carry pocket clip, the Launch 1 model is outfitted with a pass-through hole hidden at the base on the handle for lanyard attachment.
There is abbot of an issue with lock up at certain an angles. I practice using my knifes from different pockets and different angels depending on if this might be a primary or secondary defense item. This means that lockup is not really an issue IMO. Jimping, light weight, balance, finger guard. This has the things I wanted in the launch 2. Nice compliment to the launch 1.
Love this knife! Fast action, super light and razor sharp edge cpm154 for under 100!
Very nice knife, this is my new edc for sure. There are a few things I want to say to help those on the fence. Definitely hold one before buying if you have the chance. I consider myself to have medium size hands, I can see how the handle might feel small in large hands. I have a pm2 and the cutting edge on this seems slightly longer, however the handle on this is definitely shorter. Despite the video overview, I fed paracord through the end along the spine and tied my own lanyard just fine. I chose this out of all the launch series as I liked the blade shape the most and you have the extra finger guard on the handle. The handle itself had a slightly chalky feeling, so those worrying about a slippery grip should know it has a slightly porous feeling, kind of light the bottom edge of a ceramic cup. Lastly the lock up is super tight, will see if it holds up in the long run.
So many firsts and the thing that stands out the most is the customer service. TOP NOTCH. Dealt with Brittany and she was able to get this from Utah to VA in just under a day for me. In addition to that she was able to answer all of my newbie questions and provided her opinion as well as technical knowledge on the Kershaw and other brands I was considering. She stayed on the phone with me while I completed the order online so she could give me a discount on shipping. I will definitely be buying from Blade again and look forward to my new EDC. The knife itself does not disappoint. The finish is low key and it feels balanced in my hand. The action of the button feels positive and smooth and locks into place solidly. The size is perfect and I was also pleased to learn about the replacement cost if the blade gets damaged along with a very solid warranty. Very happy customer and thanks Brittany.
A great knife for the price. Snappy action and CMP154 for ~$100. Hard to beat. Could have been sharper out of the box. I love the recessed button.
I have had this knife now for almost a week. My first Kershaw was a Christmas gift 4 years ago that sports a speedsafe opening mechanism. It never failed once and I use/used the hell out of it. I started shopping for an automatic knife a few months ago and held quite a few different brands in local shops but they all felt cheap (minus benchmade but I'm not paying that kind of money for a pocket knife) so without seeing the knife in person, holding it, using it, etc. I crossed my fingers and ordered it from bladehq. Free shipping got it to me in NC in less than 4 days, the knife is SOLID, balanced, sturdy, thin, razor sharp, I could not ask for more from this knife or be more happy with it for less than $100 shipped to my door. It locks up like a deadbolt and there is no blade play that I have experienced yet. Personal opinion- best auto I found in my shopping experience. Well done again Kershaw, Thank you!
Feels comfortable in hand. Deploys with authority. No blade play. Rides almost unnoticed in pocket. Very well made of quality CPM 154 steel. Ultra sharp OOB. A winner and at this price point a must have for anybody who has ever wanted an auto blade.
I did not know I could buy a knife like this and then for it to be built very well made it even better. It's priced very well too I mean come on and get. As soon as you hit the button awesomeness! Will be buying more these just in case you can not get them in the future.
I absolutely love this knife, but was also disappointed that it doesn't lock reliably. I disassembled it to see if I could re-clock the spring so that it provided tension through the entire blade travel. I decided that was going to take too long so I reassembled the knife in preparation of returning it. Thing is, when I put it back together, I accidentally tightened the blade pivot just a little more than factory and that ended up providing just enough drag to keep the blade from bouncing off the blade stop. I've fired it a couple hundred times since then and had solid lock up every time. So you could send it back and spend more money or you could tighten the pivot ever so slightly with a t6 torx. Your call... I would DEFINITELY recommend this knife!
I loved this knife. I purchased it around July of 2015 and used it as a light, everyday carry. Around September of the same year I found that a screw had worked itself out of the handle (not a big deal to me) but I also noticed that after deploying the blade, it would not stay locked, causing it to slam shut on my index finger and topped when it hit bone. The sharpness of the blade was impressive, I just wish I had found out a different way. I sent the knife in for warranty work to Kershaw who's customer service was awesome. They could not fix the knife but did make it right. I decided on a different Kershaw model that they let me choose and like it better. Aside from the blade lock issue, I loved the knife it was comfortable in hand and had great wight. The machined aluminum offered more grip than I thought it would and the action on the knife was powerful. It was great for everyday carry but definitely not a tactical knife.
Just received mine a couple days ago, about to send it back. I love the looks of the Launch series and the price point, as well as the choice of steel. As soon as I took it out of the package and hit the button, I knew something was off. The button felt grainy and was not smooth at all, although the blade had a super strong action. At first I thought I would just give the button a chance to break in, but then I noticed the blade didn't lock open at least 30% of the time, and the blade centering was a bit off. I own multiple assisted Kershaw knives and have never had a bad experience, so this lack of quality control was quite a surprise. I will be returning the Launch and moving up to a ProTech TR-3. This was my first purchase from BHQ, and their customer service seems to be just as amazing as so many reviews have said. I may be disappointed in Kershaw, but I'm sure this will be the first of many purchases from Blade HQ.
