Description

Description

The Kizer Megatherium features a dramatic Elijah Isham design that will be a stand out in any collection. Elijah has a strong appreciation for surreal art, resulting in unique and creative knife designs that function as good as they look. This model has a modified wharncliffe blade made from CPM-S35VN steel and a titanium frame lock handle with a carbon fiber scale. The Megatherium comes equipped with Isham's "Edge Below Tab" flipper system, that conceals the flipper in the open position for unobstructed performance. Item includes a titanium tip-up pocket clip with a bead blast finish.

It has so much potential. I really wanted to give this an overall rating of 5 stars. It is SO close to that The design is amazing. I love the weight of it. But the quality control is somewhat disappointing. Mine had a little chip in the otherwise beautiful grip. There is a screw at the proximal end of the grip that is placed so close to the edge that the grip material is only about a millimeter thick. Apparently the pressure of the screw cause a tiny bit of the grip to flake off, thus creating a sharp spot. I handed this knife to my son for his opinion without saying anything negative and inside 5 seconds he pointed out the chip.

So I guess I am not the only one who is excessively critical. There were also some tiny scratches on the blade. They are not too bad and if you are not carefully inspecting it, you would most likely overlook their existence. On the plus side it comes in a really nice zippered, camo design case that was itself nicely boxed. Five stars on the packaging. Another nice touch is the included polishing cloth The edge is very sharp--five stars for that. I have bought several knives from BladeHQ over the last few years and have always been satisfied and will continue to be a customer. It is not a fault of
BladeHQ--it is a fault of Kizer.
Love it but...

I just started collecting knives so I don't know much about them. If something catches my eye, I look up reviews about it and then possibly buy it.

This knife caught my eye.

I love the knife it's great to hold, the action is great deploying and retracting the blade, and it just looks super cool. There is something however, that really upset me about this knife(at least when I first got it.)

When I received the knife, there were some quality issues. Whenever I would try to deploy or retract the blade I would get that horrible scratching noise, like there was sand stuck in the blade. It wasn't easy to get the blade out and it didn't close easily either. Luckily, I watched a video from Nick Shabazz about disassembling this blade. I took it apart, cleaned it, lubricated it and re-assembled it. While the action was improved, that horrible sandy grinding noise didn't go away. In Nick's video, he mentioned that Kizer's pivots weren't up to snuff lately and sure enough there were rough metal surfaces on the interior of the knife. I buffed the knife using a Dremel tool and now it's awesome, but man, what a pain in the rectum.

So yes, I love the knife, however, I don't think I'll be buying another Kizer anytime soon.

*** Update 11/21/2017

After thinking about it a bit, I was probably a bit to harsh when I said I won't buy another Kizer again soon. This is now my favorite knife and other than the problems I had when I first got it, the knife is perfect. So...IMO Kizer is okay and this knife is definitely my favorite so far.
Great knife

I'm usually a big ZT fan but this knife caught my. It's my first Kizer and I was curious about how it would compare to my other knives.

This is one fantastically smooth knife. Flips out great, drops closed easy. Fits my hand like a glove and it's a good steel.

The knife is weighted a bit towards the blade which is no surprise with how large the blade is.

I'll be buying more Kizer/Isham designs
Well done Mr. Isham / Kizer.

Had been eyeing this blade for weeks and finally decided to pull the trigger. Boy am I glad I did. Action is butter smooth and has a great feel to it, opens with a satisfying "clink". A little heavy on the activation but it's a larger blade so that comes with the territory. The titanium and carbon fiber on the handle blends together very well and provides great compliments to one another and manages a good sturdy weight. A little wider in the pocket but again that's to be expected. A mod design that doesn't sacrifice function to its form, feels great in-hand while gripping traditionally or reverse and is my new go-to EDC. Also large enough to stand in as a great kitchen knife if you're in a pinch =D

On the fence like I was? Just go for it. Although your wallet will throw a hissy-fit, your flip-finger will be eternally grateful.
Great build quality and design!

If this looks like a knife you would enjoy don't hesitate. Another quality Kizer build and unique design with a big blade! All the Kizer knives I've bought have been remarkable quality for the money and the Megatherium is no different. A bit wide in the pocket but I knew that from the stats and other knives I carry. Razor sharp and super smooth action.
