Description:
The Kizer Sheepdog has been a staple in the knife world for years now, notable from its iconic cleaver blade and comfortable handle. It makes a real statement every time it's drawn. It has a real look to it, but looks aren't everything. It's also a functional EDC knife that can slice like the best of them. Get yourself a Sheepdog, and you'll know why they have the knife community buzzing!
In love with this aesthetic? Take a look at Chris Conaway's other awesome designs.
Like many others have said, I was attracted to the sheepdog design, but I hadn't fallen in love with any configuration or size. When I saw the release for these, I knew I would be buying one immediately! Glad I was able to snag one before they sold out. The action is snappy and the blade is surprisingly slicy for the geometry. I really enjoy the ergos and the handle material is "near perfect" as Zac would say,
Had been debating between the Mini, and the XL for some time, and then I saw these were coming out and it was the perfect fit for me. Love the Action, and the Micarta is amazing. All around Solid knife!
I've had a Mini Sheepdog for a year or so, and it has been a great knife. Picked up this version with the black micarta scales, and love it. Very smooth action, perfect fit and finish, great centering, and all for less than a hundred bucks. BladeHQ shipped it instantly, and it was here in only a couple days. This one has entered the daily carry rotation for sure.
Kizer has knocked this blade out of the park. The BD1N steel came razor sharp out of the box and has a fantastic coating, matched perfectly well to the blacked out hardware. The micarta is perfectly textured to ensure a good grip without tearing up the pocket. For just under $90, this is an absolute steal!
I got this version of the BladeHQ exclusive Sheepdog and it is just a great knife. The fit and finish are just perfect. The detent is perfect. I have absolutely no complaints about this knife.
I bought this knife because I have had the mini sheepdog for a few years and have enjoyed it thoroughly. As someone who typically avoids products made in China, I like the Crucible tool steel, micarta materials, and Chris Conway design, which to me, "justified" buying a second Kizer knife. Fun knife, neat design. For those considering this knife vs. the XL version, I have noticed it's right on the edge of being "intimidating" to non-knife folk but evokes more interest than fear generally speaking. The XL would definitely be over the top but that is its appeal I suppose. I concur that this size is still a good EDC while the XL would be more of a hand cannon and not very cool to pull out in polite company. If you are into having that Rambo-type persona amongst your friends and co-workers, go for the XL. If someday I do go for owning the trifecta of sheepdogs, I think the XL would make a great knife to stash in my car-camping kitchen. I'm giving it 4 out of 5 stars because the pocket clip is not functional out of the box. The profile of the tip does not have enough lip to catch even on pants that are made of very thin material. I checked it up against my mini sheepdog and the mini's lip is much more pronounced. I will have to try and bend out the clip with pliers or replace it with something more functional if I mess up the modification.
