I have owned Microtech knives since they first started selling them from Vero Beach. I had an original Socom Folder but a few years ago I gave it to my Son who still has it and we both have used it hard. I missed the old one that I gave my son so I decided to pick another one up. In the wilderness, at home and at work it is a very nice knife. There was no choice of blade materials on this model but I was happy to see that this one came with a Bohler M390 blade, which I have had on several other knives and it has performed well. I was also pleased to see that they are every bit as nice as they always have been; maybe even a bit better in quality and design. While many brands have gotten cheaper and lower quality it is great to see that Microtech is still putting out a top quality product. I recommend this knife highly regardless of which blade steel it has.

I was seeking a replacement hard working tactical knife to replace the SOG Vulcan I purchased 11 years ago. This past winter I bought a Spyderco PM 2, which is an excellent knife, but found the handle is less than comfortable. After viewing several videos I finally came to the conclusion that the Microtech Socom Elite is a fine and affordable knife. I haven't as yet put the knife through it''s paces, but it's become an everyday carry for me. Pleased with the fine workmanship in the fit, though the coating on the handle was a little thin in spots. Hey it's a working knife and it will of course get scratches when using it.

Was skeptical in the beginning because of the material and build of a production at this price level but goodness, the carry time just kept increasing. The signature feel and sound when opening is pretty addictive leaving a few ZTs, Spydercos, and Benchtards in the dust. Something about the feel when the blade engages in the aluminum frame that keeps me wanting more. If only autos are legal in CA, Ike have an entire collection of Microtech awesomeness!

The blade centering is perfect - as can be seen without ambiguity by the blade falling directly on the seam between the two handle halves.

The precision of the build of this knife cannot be understated - there is zero (not even a *hint*) discernible lock rock when you lock the blade open and wiggle it from the tip. This is the most solid-feeling lockup I've ever experienced on any folding knife, bar none (not even my Rockstead Hizen, which cost more than twice as much).

Out of the box, the blade is VERY sharp and slices through oranges (what I happened to use as a test medium this time) with very little effort.

The textured rubber inserts give good traction - I wish they would have put some on the rear handle half as well. Overall traction is not *quite* as good as my Spyderco PM2, but it better than many other knives.

The action was excessively tight at first, but eventually I figured out how to deploy the blade reliably with one smooth stroke (some break-in probably helped).

The thumb studs are a tad on the sharp side (my biggest complaint) - not quite as dehorned as the studs on a Sebenza, but nowhere as absurdly sharply machined as the studs on a Pro-Tech Integrity or Lerch. If you have rougher skin, you probably won't notice.

There is admittedly a *tad* bit of lock stick, but it's not enough to be annoying.

The ergonomics are fairly good, and the size is very practical.

The overall build quality feels very high, and I do not think the $285 price tag is unreasonable for the palpable workmanship that you get.

I've been carrying this daily for the past month and its becoming a favorite. Large, yet, rides comfortably in a pants pocket and has a great clip. When it's time to use it, the blade deploys so smoothly that you'll think it's assisted. Highly recommend!

I got my socom and carried it every day for a week. I absolutely loved it. Then, the pocket clip snagged on a chain causing the knife to fall and the detent fell out and disappeared! A $300 knife should be held together better. I emailed Microtech and they are going to fix it. It is frustrating that a knife as well designed and balanced as this has such a simple yet important flaw.

I have to say that this knife is really awesome! The weight is lighter than I expected for the size compared to other knives of similar profile. The pocket clip orientation is great for the design (something I was concerned about before purchasing but now like) and the action is very smooth allowing the blade to fly out with a lock up that is strong. The lockup is great as well as not too far, closed detent is strong but does not interfere with deployment. The finish on the handle and blade are better in hand than pictures can show. Feel is comfortable, sturdy and lots of well placed grip points. This blade is very sharp! I am very happy with this knife and definitely hope to get the green handle if/when they become available. Thank you Blade HQ and Microtech!

I've been 'collecting' predominately folding knives since 2012 and I've bought and sold many since that time.

Until now I was unable to purchase a Socom Elite, since I was not willing to pay over a 1K.

This knife is hands down a fabrication work of art and a 100% functional 'Tactical Folder' - and... a true bargain at $285.00.

Will be purchasing a Satin Tanto, as soon as they are available.
