Description

Description

The TR-4 is a whole new take on Protech's popular Tactical Response line. It incorporates a much requested sliding safety on the front of the handle. This TR-4 features a 4" black DLC finished 154-CM steel blade with a partially serrated edge. The ergonomic handle is black anodized T6 aluminum. The TR-4 is a knife that will not let you down. It fires hard, locks up like a rock (what else would you expect from Pro-Tech?) and feel great. The TR-4 has a pocket clip (tip up) on the back of the knife for easy carry. Also includes a black nylon sheath.

BLADEHQ has become my new favorite shop! Good prices, one-day processing, fast shipping, and a free t-shirt! What's not to love.

The TR4.4 serrated from Pro-tech is a spectacular piece. The black DLC coated 154-CM steel blade is beautifully aggressive. And to get good old #500, the last of production run 9?!? I am having a hard time using a collector's item like this.

PROs include build quality which is equal to the much higher priced knives and in some ways better. I love the speed and powerful lock-up of the TR4 as well. Pro-tech does not skimp on their springs. Fit and finish is near perfect as is weight and feel in your hand. The lanyard mounting loop is best in class and the secondary safety is positive and strong. Edge, shape, and style of serrations are perfect. I prefer the angled Veff serrations more but the TR4.4 serrations are deep and prominent.

CONs are few, and they are not significant, but there are some. The activation button is rough. I appreciate the strong resistance--this knife will not open accidentally--but the slide can be gritty and no amount or type of lubricant will change that. And the activation button could be bigger. It's not small like the SOG but when it's open it's easy to lose it by feel alone. And the secondary safety only works when closed. Try the Gerber 06 and you will always want a large button with a two-way safety.

Overall it is easily five stars.
