This has easily and quickly become one of our favorites here at BladeHQ. The knife feels great, the action is superb and the price is unbeatable. Everything about this knife is exceptional and we can recommend it without hesitation to anyone.
Aegis (ee-jis), which in Greek means shield or protection, is also the code name for the world's premier integrated air defense system and the sea-based element of the United States Ballistic Missile Defense System.
SOG's comprehensive Aegis line of premier folders is fully integrated with top end systems. Start to open the knife, and let Aegis finish the action with a bang, using one of the surest assisted technologies (S.A.T.) out there! SOG's trademark bayonet reversible clip, built in safety with red/ready to go, checkered DigiGrip™ handles, and tacky rubber inserts all contribute to make Aegis a platform for today's changing world. Cover your back with Aegis outdoor or tactical blades. The knife has a black finished blade and a zytel handle with a digi camo design.
I've owned this knife for several years. The blade shape is exceptional, with a great piercing tip. Despite the size, the knife is very light and very easy to carry. Super-deep carry clip is excellent too. Say what you like about AUS-8 steel, but it's tough and easily takes a wicked sharp edge. I have a lot of knives, but this one continues to stay in my regular rotation.
I have used this as a EDC for roughly 6 years. It has seen it all mud, dirt, rain and snow with less than stellar maintenance it still works as it did when new. Only a few sharpenings and oilings and not a spot of rust or corrosion. Great knife at a great price!
Positives – This knife looks cool. The black finish on the blade is very nice. The digital camo looks good at arm’s length. Thumb jimping on the back of the blade is nice and grips well. Assisted opening is strong, first couple of time you open it feels like it’s going to jump out of your hand. Potential Negatives – Digital Camo finish around edges becomes distorted and doesn't look the greatest close up. I found the safety to be unnecessary, but you don’t have to use it. I cannot gracefully close the knife with one hand. The closed knife is shaped like a tear drop and there isn't much to grab when pulling out of pocket. Not sure I’d trust a tactical blade without steel liners, although it is very lightweight. Overall it's a nice knife for the collection but it doesn't make my EDC rotation mainly because two of my preferences are tip down carry and a smaller knife.
