Customer Reviews

Good auto, needs minor finishing work
Robert K. on Jan 16, 2017

Pros: Snappy and strong action, locks open every time, even when dirty. Good ergonomics in hand and pocket. Tip-up deep-carry clip placement feels natural for drawing and opening. Button action works great right handed, easy enough with index finger left handed. Cons: Finish on blade and clip wears easily, will be better uncoated. Pivot was gritty. Edge was serviceable, if not good. Button action was also gritty, though reliable. This was my first purchase from BladeHQ. My knife came in a box in a bubble wrap envelope, very quickly and without any damage to the knife. To start, knife is incredibly lightweight for the size, but feels well built and I'm confident it will take more abuse than I will ever offer. I disassembled the pivot to clean around the joint and apply knife/gun lube, which took care of the gritty feel. Blade centering is great, no vertical or horizontal play once pivot was tightened down and safety lug was polished up and lubed (resolved gritty feeling in button action). I primarily use this knife for cutting cardboard, tape, and the occasional food prep. Even though the edge came a little dull and rough, it easily took a fine and even edge after just a few minutes with sharpening stones and hones. Hardness is good enough that I haven't needed to sharpen since then, 3 weeks on with daily use. Seems superior to 8Cr13MoV in this regard, though I haven't tested corrosion resistance at all (and won't-- I've coated it in a food safe protectant). I would compare to AUS-8. Half the time I use this knife in wet and cold coolers and freezers. Easy to open, use, and close with medium weight gloves on, which is a big pro in my book. I have removed the plastic slide safety, as it is inconvenient and detracts from normal use for me. I intend to also strip the blade of its black paint coating, as it has already rubbed and chipped off in several spots. It seems to attract tape gunk and glue more than a uncoated blade. I'll mirror polish it, and see if a gun shop will sand blast the handles for me. I like natural aluminum and steel- maybe a clear Cerakote is in order. In summary, I'd buy this again from BHQ, and think this is a great knife. It'll be even better once I've tinkered with it further. :)

Great auto
Stacy M. on Apr 25, 2015

I have carried this knife for over 2 years, and feel I can give a good review on it now Although have never abused it, have used it! It has been fired 10's of thousands of times and the spring remains strong. The steel is of good quality, hard enough to use but not so hard you can't put an edge back on it with a few swipes on a good steel. I loosen the hinge screw enough to get graphite between the blade and case then tighten enough to deploy and not have side play. The firing pin denotes some wear now and the tip of the blade protrudes from the case about a 1/16th" when closed but not enough to snag on my pocket. The fit and finish is great, the finish has never chipped but has worn off to the aluminum some from in and out of the pocket so much. I have had to put a drop of loc-tite once on the glass breaker screw to keep it and the pocket clip secure and the clip has never bent or stretched. My knife is a tool and this tool is one I cannot do without. Being my first and only auto knife I thought it would not withstand the rigors of everyday use but has proven to be wrong. I have had many new spares just in case it ever breaks but since it never does and I keep giving the spare away and ordering another in case I might loose it. I have carried a Leatherman also for 25 years and still use it for the heavy work but have found this SC60B as my go-to knife. You cannot go wrong with this knife and for the price and quick shipping at BladeHQ you have a winning combination.

poor safety
Glenn S. on May 23, 2015

Good knife for the money. The safety is poorly made and interferes with normal operation, for this reason I disabled the safety and it now works flawlessly.
