Description

Description

A Chaparral is a shrub native to the Western United States with the unique ability to perennially survive, revive and regenerate after being destroyed by drought. Itís also what Spyderco calls a new and continuing series of gentlemenís folders. Mid-sized Chaparral folders will have identical blade and handle profiles but showcase variant handle materials. Handle options will be chosen for their elegant appearance and functional utility with a focus directed at making the Chaparral series unique as well as a serious contender in the gentís knife genre.

The Chaparral 2 has a unique textured titanium handle with a mid-positioned back lock and screw-together construction. Attached to the ultra-slim handle, a left-right, tip-up pocket clip arranges the knife deeply inside a pocket. CTS-XHP stainless steel blade. The blade is flat ground and plain edged for the best available cutting performance with non-skid jimping located at both the spine and choil.

The normal FRN Chaparral is already by itself an incredible knife, one of Spyderco's best, if not the best, small folder under 3 inches. The titanium on this model amplifies the awesomeness of this knife by several magnitudes Ė the 3-D titanium has produces a really cool and trippy visual effect and helps give you a little extra to grip with. I've never had a knife that slices better out of the several dozen I've owned over the years. The HRC on the Ti Chaparrals is interestingly higher than the normal Chaparral as well, 60-62 vs 59-61. Time will have to tell if that means it is also superior.

The only thing I'd say could be better is if the titanium was machined even further on the inside to reduce weight. Its just slightly heavier than the FRN, but compared to aluminum or steel, titanium I guess could still be considered relatively lightweight.
Classy small slicer.

I'm a big fan of the Native 5 and this is basically the Lil native 'slim edition'.
Pros: great ergos for size, carries well, great slicer, beautiful milling on the handle, less mainstream typical USA and Japanese Spydercos.
Cons: compared to Native and Delicate the lock bar tension is stronger than needed and harder to close one handed due to how lightweight the blade is.
A high class lock back

I became interested in this knife mostly because of the titanium scales. The pictures and video don't do this knife justice! The milling on the titanium is complex and really beautiful. Feels great in hand, and the jimping on the finger choil and thumb ramp provide a secure grip.

The build quality, materials, and overall design make this knife well worth the price.
