The Spyderco Dragonfly 2 is a second-generation knife that has undergone some stellar improvements thanks to the C.Q.I.-Constant Quality Improvement process employed by Spyderco. The Dragonfly2 maintains the same blade and handle geometry with leveraging points that make the Dragonfly cut and feel like a much larger knife.
The Dragonfly 2 features a premium VG-10 blade with a full flat grind and now has jimping at the choil and the spine for better control and feel. The handle on the second generation Dragonfly uses Spyderco's patented Bi-Directional Texturing on the fiberglass reinforced nylon (FRN) and has a reversible tip-up wire clip for superb carry characteristics. The Back Lock steel frame ensures a tight lock with solid performance.
Came very sharp out of the box. I put it in my pocket and forget about until i need it. Best of all I probably won't ever have to sharpen it. You can't go wrong with this knife.
As you've seen with the other reviews, this knife is awesome! It's small enjoy to be forgotten, but large enough for actual use. The ZDP-189 is a great steel and comes shaving sharp, for which my only complaint is that of rust when I run with it (I sweat a lot). The green of the handles in much more prominent than it is on the website, and I really enjoy it!
I bought this dragonfly with the zdp189 as recommended. For an edc I wanted small but not too small. And that's exactly what I got. Blade is very useable and the thing weighs so little that you almost forgot you put it in your pocket. Plus the British green color I got is killer. Definitely add this to your collection you won't be sorry
The ergos on a knife this small are just simply fantastic. Optimal mix of small size, lightweight, and capability. Usually carry it in the coin pocket of my jeans. Love the wire clip. I'd say the ZDP 189 holds an edge slightly longer than VG10 in my experience. Love the BRG color as well.
For new knife enthusiasts, I'd recommend the VG-10 version because it is more corrosion resistant, tougher, and much easier to sharpen. Although, this model definitely is a much larger beast. Just like the VG-10 variant, this model has everything needed in a knife, and very little left out. But this time it has ZDP, and this makes it a super box-cutter the size of a chap stick!
It’s a great little knife with ergos and design that is just perfect for this type of size in a knife. The zdp189 makes this an even greater EDC because it keeps a greate edge for a long time. The only down side zdp189 have (in a knife this size) is that it’s hard to sharpen. All of this is why it will be one of my favorit knives to carry as an EDC, but i sold mine to be able to buy some thing more expensive and a little bit more me.
I love the dragonfly. Especially in this steel. This purchase was to replace the one I carried daily for several years before I lost it this spring. Pro tip: put your knife in a zippered pocket when sliding down and climbing back up steep slopes on your hands and knees looking for survey monuments. The pocket clip is bound to catch on something. I knew better.
I have carried this knife for over a year and it's as close to a perfect small-ish EDC knife as you can get. Light, perfectly balanced and designed, and with an amazing blade steel, this knife won't disappoint.
The Dragonfly is such a staple in Spyderco's line-up for a reason. For being so small, it preforms like any other larger knife would. The steel will chip easily if you're careless, though.
Awesome little knife! You’ll forget it’s in your pocket.
Fantastic little knife and the ZDP-189 came super sharp... Sharpest knife out of the box that I've had... Handle sits in hand very well great grip and smooth action... ZERO blade play, Spyderco is always great, love my benchmade but only bought one and I've got multiple Spyderco's now and can't get enough of them
Excellent knife to slip into your pocket without drawing attention to it. The ZDP-189 blade is well sharp straight out of the box and I expect it will hold its edge for a good time. Another keeper!
I’ve had my eye on the Dragonfly 2 for a long time now, and was fortunate enough to get it as a Christmas gift this year. It hasn’t left my pocket since. It’s small and light enough that it disappears into my pocket when I don’t need it, and it’s there when I do. For a little blade it cuts way above its size. ZDP-189 is a fantastic steel, and is an absolute razor blade. I’ve had trouble keeping myself from breaking down every box I come across. There is a patch of hair missing from my arm because it is still hair shaving shape, even after being on Christmas duty. Seriously this is one of the best EDC knives I’ve ever owned. Buy one, you won’t reget it.
i purchased this knife after watching a ton of reviews on you tube, nick shabazz did the best ones, i was looking for a knife for my wife that was not murdery, and that would fit in her hand nice and i would not have to sharpen often, she uses mostly for opening amazon packages and those hard plastic clips on cloths . she loves it and im glad i got her it
I love the design of the dragonfly 2. I can’t say enough good about it. I want them to make an xl version the size of a native 5. I have the g10 version. I really like zdp189. I have a delica with it.
Amazing little knife. The best for small and precise tasks.
I've been in law enforcement for many years and while I have a last ditch defensive knife on my non-gun side, I never use it to cut anything just so it remains sharp. In my shirt pocket however, this knife hides away perfectly and no one gasps when I break it out for every day tasks. It'll handle 95% of what you need a knife for and then some. I work in the south Texas brush on the job and I mainly use it to scrape out thorns that we get daily down here. The little prickly pear thorns that look like little hairs (the worst) that can't be picked out are no match for this little dragonfly. Love it!
Got it recently, but already has grown on me. It's smaller than I thought, but very capable. If my Delica was light this is a feather, super compact and comfortable for quick and on the go tasks. This particular steel is amazing, really over my expectations. I wouldn't try putting this knife thru heavy use thou, at side to side use (opening a plastic bottle cap) it shows signs of weakness. Keep it for what it is, cutting. My new Para 3 has replaced my Delica but I can't replace this, it's king at his size and category.
First off I have big hands. This is a tiny knife but that choil makes all the difference, full purchase on this little guy. Its sharper than all get out, sturdy lockup this will be above and beyond in my pocket a lot. But bottom line don't think this knife is too small. There's plenty to be had in this little package.
Love the steel! Love the size! Love the weight!
If someone came to me and said they could only own one knife for edc, this is the knife I would recommend. Excellent blade steel upgrade over vg-10 and even better ergos. This little dude cuts better than many of my larger knives and you don't even know it's there at just over an ounce! Don't let the size fool you, big things do come in small packages. 11/10.
Bought this as my first knife and was impressed as soon as I took it out of the box! It came razor sharp, and due to its great steel, stayed incredibly sharp too. If anybody needs a first knife, look no further!
I’ve always been a huge fan of the dragonflies. They’re so inconspicuous. All of you that have larger EDC knives know what I’m talking about. When you pull a folder the size of Australia out of your pocket just to open a box, people are sometimes a little shaken. Especially if you live in the city. Which brings me to my next point. They’re legal to carry in (every?) city! Here in Chicago, we have some of the strictest knife laws in the country. You can’t legally carry a knife larger than 2.5” here. And although some people still do it anyway, it’s nice to know that this one is allowed. The ZDP-189 steel, while it is a little harder to sharpen, carries an edge a lot longer than the standard VG-10. Also due to the jimping and the 50/50 choil, the knife fits comfortably in my semi-large hands. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a less intimidating knife or one that’s city legal.
This is probably the best mini edc knife you can carry while still feeling like you’re carrying a knife. The steel is amazing and it’s very easily deployed with one hand despite not seeming like it. I carry this in my change pocket as a secondary blade to use in case of sheeple mostly 10/10 would recommend
If you don't buy this, you are missing out. Fantastic little knife. One of the single sharpest blades I have ever unboxed, period. This thing is wicked! Great little EDC, super light, feels right at home in my large-glove-size hands. Disappears clipped to or down in the pocket. Clip works as intended, no pocket shredding. Choil is new for me but I like it, jimping is about as aggressive as I would want in a knife intended to be used barehanded. Can get all four fingers on the handle comfortably with the choil. No blade wiggle, but I also make no mistakes about a FRN-handled knife with no liners. Is the price worth it? Even the nice BHQ price had me on the fence for such a small piece. Money well spent is all I can say.
Fantastic knife. Sharp out of the box, and slices through everything with ease. Nice in the hand, and small in the pocket with minimal weight. A competent and appreciated addition to my EDC collection. Just get one.
Excellent steel, keeps a great edge. Only reason I stopped carrying it, is the pocket clip. Otherwise good, light, slicey knife.
