The Rubicon is a captivating flipper from Spyderco that leverages Peter Carey's custom knife design. Spyderco has kept it authentic to the original while outfitting it with a flipper and their trademark round Spydie hole. The Rubicon excites with its contoured carbon fiber handle, titanium liners, orange G-10 back spacer, and pivot accent.
I have to disagree with Dale, respectfully. This knife is a perfect flipper. I refuse to have a knife that calls itsel a flipper and makes you flick your wrist, not a flipper in my opinion. (Remember everyone this is my opinion.) I've had this beauty for 3 years this July and couldn't be more pleased. Perfect fit and finish. Great steel. Awesome looks. I often carry it as my EDC. Works great. The g10 on the spine was a little abrasive on my hand when going in and out of my pocket so I took som 320 sandpaper and rubbbed for 5 seconds just to take off the sharpness. Love it and would buy another if I lost it.
This knife is a stunner. Its my most expensive knife so far. Just so you know, pictures don't give it justice at all, the carbon fiber on this thing is absolutely stunning. It flips well, takes some getting used to, but it's great. The steel is good. Only downside is the lock is a tad hard to release, and can be pretty annoying. Lastly this isn't a great EDC, it can be done, but it's heavy and bulky because the carbon fiber is contorted. If you're on the edge about it... Get it, it's worth it.
Beautiful to look at and hold - a real show-knife. It has a "beefy" look and feel - only about 4 inches long folded, but wide enough and thick enough (esp, the blade) to feel really substantial. Most of the time I can't get the flip-action to fully open and lock the blade, but if your finger is strong enough it might work. The clip is very strongly tightened to the handle, such that I need 2 hands (fairly strong hands) to force the clip over my pants pocket seam (Lee Jeans).
