The Fieldcraft Knife was designed by The Brothers of Bushcraft, a coalition of men across North America focusing on sharing wilderness living skills of all categories. From tracking, to building shelters, the Brothers of Bushcraft make it a point to show the skills to all people, of all ages, from all over.
The knife is ten inches long in total, with a blade length of four and a half inches. This makes a compact, but extremely serviceable knife. The Fieldcraft's blade is 3/16" thick, and made of 1095 High Carbon steel. The cutting edge is a modified Scandinavian Grind, which is very effective for carving, skinning and other general woods work. With a rockwell hardness of 56-58, the ease of sharpening is astounding. That is if you ever get to sharpen the blade. As the hardness and edge geometry work beautifully together to make a long lasting edge.
The handle is one of the most ergonomic ones on the market, sporting several useful additions. Although knives with a lot of frills often end up lacking, the additional items found on the Fieldcraft knife were selected from experience and critiqued in every step of design, development and production. Being made of G-10, the handle will never let you down. The bow drill divot on the handle is frictionless and makes starting those primitive fires almost effortless. The "Thumb Scallops", formed on the hilt of the handle offer more comfort and control when using specialized carving and skinning grips. The pommel of the blade is simply the tang of the knife exposed enough to allow impact from a baton to not effect the handle (though the G10 is definitely tough enough to take such abuse). On the exposed pommel, you will find a scraper specially designed by one of The Brothers of Bushcraft, for striking Ferro rods in a safe and efficient manner.
First TOPS knife for me was a C.U.B., which I love. Based on its performance I purchased this one, it has been flawless as well. From outdoor, camping, mil. duties, to day to day "garage" Honey do lists this is one of my favorite tools. Its not a size envy knife, its not a bells and whistles bling and flash rambo knife its simply a go to understated work horse that quietly performs flawlessly. As a lefty the sheath is a dissapointment for me and useless, suggest TOPS offer somethign for us lefties. When I ordered it I also ordered another SPEC OPS Combat Master medium sheath from another company as Blade HQ doesn't carry. Best sheath in the world in my opinion, I wish Blade HQ carried. The green/black is beautiful, rugged and feels great in the hand. The color of the outdoors. The knife was SHARP, clean, and ready for duty right out of the bag. If your on the fence pull I recommend the knife and Blade HQ.
I observed this knife for over a year and found reviews on it on YouTube and other sources. Being of a pessimistic nature and owning other high end knives I decided to give this a shot at being in my kit. This is one very well thought out and well made knife!! Quickly it found home in my primary go bag and is very welcomed addition. Comfortable in the hand and with enough weight to believe it's fully ready for any task. The modified Scandi grind came extremely sharp and ready. Pros: well made and of excellent quality. Cons.. One year warranty? Sheathe isn't ambi and cannot be made so without modifications or a custom made alternative. I own several ESSE knives based on warranty alone. But by comparison, GET this knife and you will love it. BladeHQ beat Amazon price by far with more options and very fast delivery! I will continue to buy from BladeHQ If I ever find need of another knife. My Use: pro level SAR and survival (expeditionary).
