Description

Description

Designed by Tommaso Rumici, the DAN model from Viper Knives is a sleek folding knife for everyday use. The model name Dan is an acronym for "Daily Assorted Needs" and is followed by a number that identifies the blade shape; 1 is the drop point blade and 2 is the wharncliffe blade. It is equipped with the Action StopperŪ slip joint mechanism to comply with restrictive laws in urban areas, yet provides the essential edge for your daily chores.

The DAN2 has a wharncliffe blade and this model features a layered silver twill/G-10 handle with a titanium spacer and stainless steel pocket clip.

The Viper Dan 2 is an unusual knife. I have the version with the silver twill G-10 scales.

It's a slip joint that doesn't have a nail nick. It has a front flipper that has two detentes as it opens - 90 degrees and fully open.

The knife is well balanced, and the rounded edges of the scales allows you to effortlessly hold it.

It has a reversible deep carry pocket clip. I tried reversing it to see if I liked it, but then I switched it back. This option works great for left-handed owners.

The front flipper is somewhat stiff, and I'm thinking that I might ramp the edges of the holes to allow the bearings to slide out easier.

The blade is held in place by Viper's Action Stopper system. The jimping on the flipper gives you a place to rest your thumb.

You can close the knife with the traditional two handed method or the age-old method of placing the blade against your legs and pushing the body. In either case, be aware of where your fingers are placed.

Craftsmanship of this knife is excellent. The blade is centered. The back of the blade is rounded, which I like. Some don't like it, but I like it.

I think that a Wharncliffe can be an acquired taste, and I like the modified Wharncliffe shape of this blade.
