Hogue, well known for the gun grips, has ventured into the knife world. Their first offering, the EX01 Tactical Folding Knife from their Extreme™ Series, is a rock solid entry.

Although the Extreme series features a button lock mechanism, this is a manual knife. The Extreme series is designed by Allen Elishewitz. The knives look good, they are comfortable and the function & action is beyond reproach.

The 6061 T6 aluminum handle is anodized olive green. The drop point style 154-CM stone-wash finished blade (plain) is razor sharp. The blade comes out with a refined smoothness and locks securely into place via the button lock mechanism. There is also a front mounted safety to lock the blade open even more securely. For easy carry there is also reversible pocket clip.

I had never heard of Hogue before purchasing this knife. This model intrigued me because it was a larger folder with a button lock. It's surprisingly light for its size and has very smooth action as well. The BLADE comes very, very sharp with a nice polished edge. Mine came with a tiny bit of side play but I was able to get rid of it by adjusting the pivot - so no issues. I was torn between the 3.5" or 4" but I went with the 4" and I believe I made the right choice. It's big, but not too big to carry and use. The JIMPING on the top of the handle is adequate but the portion on the blade is too smooth to have much effect. The POCKET CLIP is admittedly ugly but it performs very well. Its the most comfortable clip I've experienced with absolutely no hotspots. Due to its very low profile you can barley tell its there when you grip the handle and it's less prone to snags. The HANDLE's finger groove is very ergonomic and gives an amazingly tight reverse grip. I also think it's a nice touch that the back spacer has been milled out of the 2 handle scales and isn't a separate piece. This knife is very well designed and executed. I'm happy it's at such a reasonable price point considering the quality. I really have to give props to Hogue for coming into the knife making scene with such a solid design and I'll be watching to see what else they will produce in the future.
