Description

The Boker FR is based on the popular Brad Zinker FR Custom. It offers the custom level quality Brad Zinker is known for at an affordable production cost. Tough carbon fiber handles, titanium liners, and a VG-10 blade provide a solid cutting platform for any difficult cutting job. The ball bearing hinged blade fires into the open position with a smooth blade flipper. A deep carry titanium pocket clip finishes off the excellent EDC design. This FR model has a carbon fiber handle and a satin finished blade with a flipper opener.

First the good: this knife is gorgeous. The carbon fiber has a great feel and decent grip, the blade shape is nice. The weight is great and it is thin with a deep carry pocket clip so it rides well in the pocket. It is also a knife that will not scare anyone when you take it out - a true gentleman's carry.

Now the bad: The deployment action and lock stick were so bad, I almost returned it. It was bad enough that I thought the knife had been damaged and some how slipped through quality control. I even went so far as to request a return label. It was impossible to deploy without a wrist flick or having to use my thumb on the side of the blade to complete deployment. But everything else checked off every box for what I wanted, and I also got this knife on sale for less than $80, so I decided to keep it and do a little work on it. I cleaned and lubed it up and did the Sharpie trick on the tang of the knife. It is better, but still not great - it still often needs a wrist flick to open (I keep hearing the windows fail sound they use on Knife Banter) and there is still a little bit of lock stick. So this is not a great fidget knife. I also would prefer the jimping on the lock bar to be a little less aggressive, but that one is a personal preference.

So the question is, would I recommend this knife - not unless you are willing to work on it and put up with it's deployment and lock stick issues. It is a good looking knife, but ill mannered.

I am an avid knife collector and carry a range of EDCs. Knife specs for this one falls in the sweet spot of where I like EDCs, so I was excited to get my knife, but then I got it. Out of the box, action was poor and lock stick was crazy bad. Opened the knife to see what I could do about both. Oil and adjusting lock bar pressure helped action but still not great. Blade lock surface has poor grinding job. Honed locking surfaces slightly, but only reduced stick a bit. Generally like Boker stuff but this one's a miss.
