First, the number burned into mine is different than the one in the description. The number 1789 is Laser burned in above the Name-Logo and o. The reverse side John Kubasek East Hampton, MA. Burned in an oval shape with Maker in the center. There is no China anywhere on the entire knife, maybe an early made model? Anyhow it is very solid in every manner when locked open or closed and came with an extremely sharp edge. Great little package.
