The CRKT Fire Spark is a heavy-duty tactical folder built for law enforcement and military professionals, although it also makes a fine general-purpose sport and work folder for those who want to carry a larger knife.
The Fire Spark combines CRKT's OutBurst® assisted opening with their Fire Safe¢ mechanism for reliable, safe and solid performance. The blade is locked by the Fire Safe pin when closed and released by firmly pressing the thumb stud and pushing outward where the assisted opening system takes over. The blade locks firmly open via the InterFrame build with a stainless steel liner lock.
The 1050K Fire Spark is tactical finished with a non-reflective black oxide finished handle, blade, pocket clip and hardware. The CNC machined 6061 aluminum handle has G-10 scales and four finger grooves for superior grip. The lanyard hole is large enough for a double lanyard loop and the handle features a "skull cracker" tip. The blade on the Fire Spark is a modified tactical spear point design with a razor sharp edge, high hollow grind and swedged top edge. Blade steel is premium 8Cr14MoV stainless steel. The Fire Spark includes a 4-way reversible pocket clip for ambidextrous use.
Finally, to maintain lockup in high-stress situations CRKT added the LAWKS® safety, which effectively converts the folder into a virtual fixed blade when the LAWKS lever is pressed forward.
This is by far my favorite knife! So many features that just make this an absolutely amazing knife for EDC, or for tactical use. One of the best features I like that I didn't even know about before purchasing is the thumb stud locking feature(Known as a Fire Safe pin). The knife won't accidently open unless you really want it to. The thumbstud has a push button on the top of it that won't allow you to open the blade without first pushing in the button, and then pushing the blade out like normal. This makes it almost impossible for the knife to open accidentally in your pocket, which gives a great peace of mind! And it doesn't hinder the opening at all which is what I'm sure some people worry about. I wish all spring assisted knives had this! After seeing this in action, I'm almost wary of purchasing a spring assisted knife without it! The finger grooves also give you a ton of purchase when using the knife so you won't ever lose control of it when doing hard work. It is a slightly heavier knife, but that's because it seems to be built like a tank. This is going to be a knife that just will not break, and is going to be a knife that will last year after year without issue. Being able to have 4 different positions for the pocket clip is also nice. As well as having the locking button on the back of the knife to make sure that when the knife is open, it will stay open with just the flick of your thumb. I find the blade designs that come out of CRKT are just beautiful, and I always find the blades to be sharp right out of the box. Well done CRKT! This is definitely a knife that will be my EDC for years to come!
As other reviews have mentioned. The release mechanism is fairly tough to trigger out of the box. It also did not completely open about 60% of the time out of the box. I loosened the main fastener/screw about a 1-2mm turn and now it fires open 100% of the time. Super sharp out of the box. 4 stars mainly due to it not being fully functional from the get go. If you can get it for at least 50% off its original MSRP it is certainly worth it.
This is a knife that is kinda sexy. The blade shape is designed for Piercing and slicing the blade opens with authority and locks up securely with the liner lock and lawks lock. The handle is my problem, even though it's comfortable, it is a bit smooth and does not have much of a guard and as a tactical knife could be a problem. But like I said it is sexy.
I know part of this is me. I had thumb surgery a while back so for me I can hardly get the thing open. I'm hoping the locking tang softens up a little. My teenage sans have a hard time with it too. Handle is ok and as indicated in another review is a little slick. It is a tank so it should be sturdy.
