Description

Description

Good news! More knives will be here soon.

CRKT's Razel series, designed by Jon and Josh Graham of Graham Knives in Tennessee, has captured the attention of every craftsman who has seen them. Many insisted that CRKT make a folding version and the Razel Folder followed. The Razel Folder is an impressive knife with a Micarta handle rounded with a deep finger choil, pommel swell, grip notches at the finger tips, and jimping at the spine. The stainless steel InterFrame build with locking liner and integrated CRKT patented LAWKS safety effectively converts the folding Razel into a virtual fixed blade. The CRKT Razel utilizes a 8CR13MoV stainless steel blade for strength and durability. A removable stainless steel clip is included.

Lock up is suspect on mine

$21 is worth a stab (pun intended), so I bought this sucker to carry at work. Iím a firefighter and a, always on the hunt for a chisel/blunt nose knife to have with me. We respond on a ton of medical calls, and I find myself using my knife to pry window screens and sliding doors/windows out of their tracks to access peopleís locked up homes more than any other task. When a little old lady falls down at 3AM, my pocket knife is the ticket to accessing the home without kicking in a door. Queue the folding Razel...
This knife looked perfect for my tasks. Itís big and beefy. Itís plenty sharp. Itís long enough to pry and is affordable enough that I can put it through the ringer without feeling guilty. It looks nice, but feels like a budget knife in the hand... Who cares? Itís a worker.
I would love to trust this knife for its intended task, but I have an issue. It will not lock open 75% of the time. It has a safety, but the knife rarely opens far enough to engage the lock and make the safety useable. Because it will be used to pry and scrape, and the tip has the angle that it has, the blade wants to close on your fingers when not locked up. If I flick my wrist hard when opening it, I can get lockup half the time. I just canít trust this thing in the dark, while standing on a ladder. Itís relegated to the drawer. Hopefully mine is an outlier.

If I reviewed just the knife it would be 5 stars bc I don't mind having to tune new knives.... But crkt really dropped the ball on this one. I had to take the blade out and use a Dremel to grind off the back end just a hair so that the liner lock would full engage.... Just really poor quality control on this one it sounds like. Once I had it adjusted, I really liked this knife.... The different blade became very useful for some of the awkward cuts I have to make.... In all not bad knife for $20

Awesome knife, great value! I love this knife. It's a very solid knife, nice blade thickness and a nice handle. It does lock when you pop it open with a little flick of the wrist. I would recommend this knife to a friend and I will be looking to buy more CRKT knives in the future because of the quality of this knife.

The good: very comfortable to hold. Good mass without feeling heavy or bulky. The problems can be fixed.

The ugly: poor finish. The micarta has voids in it. The metal wasn't polished in some places.

The bad: the lock puts pressure on the blade when closed, so the blade is off center and scrapes the inner liner on closing. Also it doesn't lock open. Seems like the lock or the blade itself wasn't ground down enough to fully engage, so the blade immediately slips off the lock. The ball detent in the lock has more hold than the lock itself.
Come on CRKT...

I would love this knife if it was put together better. As many have noted and as I found out myself, the blade does not lock open. I get it, this is a $20 knife. But I have never had any knife not lock open at any price point. Looking online I couldnít find a video review of one that did lock open. The safety lock will not engage since the liner lock failure obstructs it from working. The blade is so out of center that it hits the liner as it closes pretty roughly. If you are savvy as to how to fix these issues then it could be a fun knife to make a project out of and be a great knife when finished. If not, I would just pass on this knife or know what to expect. I love the feel and really love the blade design. But CRKT really dropped the ball on this knife. Pretty sad letting these get out to customers like this.

**Update** > So after spending an afternoon with this knife, some sand paper and a dremal, this knife is not bad. It was actually a good knife for me to learn on as I did a lot of handle work on it as well. So you can put your own value on this knife. But if you donít plan on working on it be cautious.

Out of the box, this knife didn't lock. It was so off center the blade scraped against the scales. It was the dullest knife I've ever received. It was a CRKT.
I knew this would be a project going into it based off of the reviews. After taking the time to work on all it's issues, I love this knife so so much. It's at the point where it's pretty much drop shut, and is a tool with a purpose.
There's too many hot spots with the Graham clip, though, which is disappointing. I'd love to use it since it's so unique.

Love the design, can't afford the upscale versions, and you shouldn't pass at this price.
Before you decide how you like the action or the lockup, snap it open 50-100 times with a wrist flick. You'll then find the action is smooth, the lockup at least 50% and the lawks engages flawlessly.
My only gripe so far, wow loctite on the big clip, I can't get the damn thing off, to go only Graham mini clip.

I can't believe this thing was only $22. It's got a unique blade design, a very unique clip, and great micarta scales. It's also rather heavy duty. Mine came with the blade perfectly centered and the action working pretty flawlessly as well. This is probably one of the best CRKT knives I've received out of the box with the exception of blade sharpness, but for $22 who cares? A quick sharpening and now that it's shaving hair it's a very enjoyable knife to carry with a unique design you can't find anywhere else at this price.

CRKT makes a great rendition of a Custom Razel Folder. I owned one of Graham's first Razel fixed blades and it served me well. I trust this knife will do the same. One note, CRKT includes the custom rear clip. I attached it, but found it uncomfortable in my hand. This does not affect my opinion that this folder is a winner. Great job CRKT!!.

First, the LAWKS lock could be removed. It is more annoying than anything else. If it were not for that I would have given this a solid 4, the other complaint being the tip has a better profile than the main blade, but that was easy enough to fix. Overall it is a great utility knife, and with a little work makes a great everyday carry option.

Iíve owned probably 10 CRKT knives and the brand has always left me a little cold. CRKT has such amazing designs but they seem to make them in a way that cuts corners to keep the cost down. Aside from the blade steel this knife has, they seem to have not cut many corners, I would prefer it on bearings but oh well. The blade came centered and razor sharp for its thickness. (Even the front blade is sharp enough to slice phone book paper) the fit and finish is nice and it comes with a razel clip and a standard deep carry clip, I immediately removed the deep carry clip since I prefer the razel clip. All in all a great bargain and since these are discontinued I could get one while you can.

This is the knife I carry on the weekends to work around the house, yard, and garage. The blade shape is perfect for a whole host of projects.

It's too heavy and huge to EDC to the office, but if I'm not at my day job it's in my pocket.

It feels great in the hand. Even though the micarta is very smooth, the handle shape provides a strong grip, so it's not going anywhere.

On other knives, the LAWKS system can seem unnecessary, but on a blade that I often use as a chisel or scraper, and really bear down on, I like the added security.

I'd pay a lot more for a tool this good. At the price you can get it here, it's a bargain.

I picked this up like others to have a Graham designed blade on the cheap. Expectations were maybe a little high due to YouTube praise. The blade was so far off center from the factory it scraped the liners when opening. I sent it back because, even for a Chinese made blade... I expect more from Crkt. I probably would never have carried it anyways because I don't like tip down carry but for the price it was decent enough to add to the collection. Then also like an "Xzhibit meme" from the internet "we heard you like locks so much, we put a LAWKs on your liner lock"... What is next, a lock for the LAWKs system too? I was so disappointed in the fit and finish of the knife I sent messages to CRKT and BladeHQ.

Hopefully CRKT will redesign something like this with tip up and tip down maybe, no lawks, and reasonable blade centering.

BladeHQ was awesome as always and took care of it and refunded the purchase.

Saying that. For the price, it is excellent. I also bought it because I was curious about the usefulness of the blade shape. 8cr13mov I have always found to be a decent "working" blade steel, really easy to sharpen, and it doesnt tend to mind a little dirt and moisture. I work in the Automotive industry, and let me tell you, that blunt nose scraping blade makes the knife!!! Its size and heft here is appreciated. This is a working knife, not an EDC. And for me its become my new work go-to. I say that not liking any other CRKT I have bought and owned...

CRKT get so close to making a good knife, and then they drop the ball. This is my 4th CRKT purchase.

I'll start with the good. The knife feels good in the hand. It fills it up, but it's not too big. I think it looks cool(blade and handle). The lock up is pretty good and I like the secondary lock. The pocket clip is actually comfortable and the knife rides well in the pocket.

The bad holds more weight. The blade is so off center that it drags across the liner while it's being closed. The grind is uneven on mine. The micarta scales are so thick that it makes it difficult to use the thumb stud to deploy the blade.

I would've paid much more for a better quality knife in this same style design. $23.00 = you get what you pay for
Amazing knife for the price.

I was so surprised by the quality of this knife. The edges come razor sharp, and the ergonomics are great. The handle is beefy and is usable with gloves. There's also a locking mechanism for safety. For the money this is the single best CRKT knife you can buy. Highly recommended.
