The Case of the Unfinished Knife
Matt L. on Jun 11, 2019

My first Cold Steel fixed blade. The Black Bear comes heavy, meaning business, tough, ergonomic, and with the backing of Cold Steel. Does not come finished. Weirdest knife ever, it is like the guy who did the grinds, made this knife late Friday afternoon. Black finish streaks all up and down the "stainless" secondary edge. Blade only moderately sharp. Weird multicolored streaks on the "paddle" of the blade. It was just unfinished (and very very ugly). "But Matt! It doesn't have to look good to work!" Quiet fool! Looks are 60% of everything. Just ask a Kardashian. Yet I was willing to look the other way on all these aesthetic things if it worked well...then I dropped it. Two foot drop, on to the carpet, right on the point. Shattered the tip....and my dreams. Worked for a half hour on a stone trying to salvage it. My disappointment was immeasurable and my day was ruined. Maybe it was bad luck, maybe you get what you pay for. I still like it, and I still call it my little bowichete. 66/100
