Cold Steel's Kobun is a lightweight Tanto styled boot knife. It takes its namesake from the Japanese martial, or underworld where the word "Kobun" means "soldier". It's a fitting name for a knife like the KobunŽ, which was effectively designed to be "a good soldier". In profile it closely resembles our Master Tanto, but it sports a thinner blade, and that supports its main function; to be a light weight boot knife.

Like Cold Steel's Tantos, it features the Tanto styled reinforced point. This contrasts sharply with most boot knives on the market today which are notorious for their paper thin points which are easily broken or bent. In contrast, the Kobun's point is highly resistant to bending or breaking because it is reinforced by the full thickness of the blade's spine which runs almost to the very tip of the blade.

The Kobun's deeply checkered Kraton handle is designed to offer minimum bulk with maximum grip. Its cross section was made as thin as possible (approximately 1/2 inch), then contoured to resist turning or shifting in the hand. The Kobun comes complete with a Secure-Ex sheath.

I love everything about this knife and have zero complain in terms of total quality. This is one of a hell knife and very light and so sharp. If this was my only knife, I am still very pleased and satisfied. It is one of my very adorable bodyguards.
Almost Perfect But...

I love this knife. For the price you can't get much better than this. Blade came pretty sharp, not razor but pretty damn good. And I love the Secure-Ex sheaths that cold steel uses, they are one of my favorites. But... the clip on this thing is terrible.

I don't care that it's silver like I saw on another review but the thing can't hold in place to save its life. In my boot or in my waist line it won't hold. It's a self defense knife, and in a self defense position I'm not going to have time to hold the sheath and use the thumb ramp to release the lock in. I'm going to need to just grab it, and if the blade doesn't come out of the sheath because the clip doesn't hold in place, I'm shit out of luck. Beautiful knife and a great bang for your buck but won't be using this as an edc defense blade like I planned.
Can't Go Wrong

I'm very pleased with this knife. So pleased, I bought 3 of them. The knife came razor sharp and very secured. The edge holds up well and you'll feel as in the knife is an extension of your arm. The grip is a bit on the small side but, it's a boot knife although I do EDC this on my hip. BladeHQ sent this to me perfectly. A+
Great ETC Knife

I have had this knife now for several years. I have cut many things with it including vine, branches, etc., and it has held an edge very well. It is light, strong and just the right size for concealed carry as it is barely noticeable under a shirt whichever way I wear it in a custom shoulder harness. Full tang strong and it fits my hands just right and the low profile Tsuba (hand guard), is ideal since it doesn't hang up on clothing on the draw. The sheath is very tough, thin and the belt clip has a hook on it that prevents it from being pull out as you draw the knife, even if clipped to the waist band. I highly recommend this knife as a primary EDC knife and even as a back-up knife. I carry mine on a custom made nylon shoulder harness.
Great boot knife

This is a great boot knife. I'm carrying it as a last ditch/back-up knife. It's very slim and rides comfortably and securely on the outside of my right ankle. The blade locks securely into the sheath. Blade and handle are noticeably slim, but do not seem at all flimsy. If you don't intend to boot carry I might go for something with a thicker handle. Only one small complaint: the clip on the sheath is stainless steel, I'd prefer it to be black and will probably paint it.
