Bear Grylls Ultimate Knife, now with a plain blade edge!
The Ultimate Knife is part of Gerber’s Bear Grylls Survival Series of products. This fixed blade knife combines Bear Grylls' survival experience/knowledge of key features needed in a survival knife with Gerber's design and manufacturing capabilities.
The Ultimate Knife features a high carbon stainless steel drop point blade with a plain cutting edge. The handle uses a textured rubber grip with that is great for use in dry or wet conditions. The handle also features a heavy duty pommel at the butt end of the handle and twin holes for use in lashing the knife to a stick for use as a spear. The included lanyard has an emergency whistle for alerting help and rescue.
The sheath for the Gerber Bear Grylls Ultimate Knife is loaded with features. The light-weight, military grade sheath has a slick water tight fire steel starter, ferrocerium rod that locks into sheath for use with the striker notch on the spine of the knife's blade. There is also an integrated diamond sharpener for sharpening in the field. Included in the sheath is Bear's Priorities of Survival pocket guide.
Blade fits in sheath well, and sheath is fairly nice. Handle has a good grip to it. The blade is a good shape and made well. The ferro rod hangs upside down and mine fell out. The built in sheath sharpener( sharpens when put away) doesnt make the knife very sharp. Lastly, it is not full tang but has a hammer pommel? The things that are supposed to make this knife stand out do not function as intended. I recommend this knife to BG fans that just want a knife to have one for basic use - it was great for mean when I was a teenager.
It’s solid and so is the sheath, but it’s somewhat gimmicky. Everything works perfectly (fire starter, etc) so if it has the stuff you want then get it.
