This Mini Covert Auto model has a stonewashed CPM-S30V stainless steel blade with a plain edge and a Tactical Gray aluminum handle.
The Gerber Mini Covert Automatic is an Applegate-Fairbairn design with fast push button activated automatic action. A front mounted safety engages in both the open and closed positions for secure carry and use. The Covert features aluminum scales with grip enhancing grooves and stainless liners to assure the rigidity and durability of the handle. Its removable deep carry clip and smaller size allows convenient and discreet everyday carry.
I have the larger version of this knife and it is just as good. It is the perfect size for when I want to carry a smaller knife. I like the lock and the auto mechanism works perfectly.
Nice to see a USA made Gerber with good steel (S30V) to boot. The Applegate/Fairbairn style suits this knife very well. I like the smaller blade due to EDC but I have discovered that this design does well in both sizes regarding EDC. The auto works wonderfully and the safety is a nice addition. Both the safety and activation button are very easy to distinguish and find with or with out gloves, which make this an excellent choice for "covert" use. The blade is very sharp and will remain that way due to the steel used. After a few passes with a sharpener and any dull spots are back to a nice clean blade. I would recommend both mini and regular covert sizes and the different blade styles make it difficult to choose from but each is nice and serves a purpose to the user...
Really fun knife. Small, light, and reliable. Not as snappy as most Benchmades or Protech's, but smooth and easy to handle while deploying. Good steel. Deep clip. Lightweight scales. I have wanted an Applegate/Fairbairn knife for 25 years and am glad I decided on this version. Most people would probably prefer the larger version but I have a thing for smaller, easier carries.
Its a nice "Little" knife but it doesn't open consistantly, sometimes snaps with good force when opening and other times not so much and lags. I put a couple drops of sewing machine oil on mech and it didn't help much. For the price i don't find it worth it. Its ok at best but i'll be looking to get rid of it soon.
