Hogue, well known for the gun grips, has ventured into the knife world. Hogue Knives' first offering, the EX01 Tactical Folding Knife from their Extremeâ„¢ Series, is a rock solid entry.
Although the Extreme series features a button lock mechanism, this is a manual knife. The Extreme series is designed by Allen Elishewitz. The knives look good, they are comfortable and the function & action is beyond reproach.
The black G-10 handle features a pattern the creators call "G-mascus" (G-10 & Damascus). The front of the handle has piranha texture for a better grip. The drop point style 154-CM stone-wash finished blade (plain) is razor sharp. The blade comes out with a refined smoothness and locks securely into place via the button lock mechanism. There is also a front mounted safety to lock the blade open even more securely. For easy carry there is also reversible pocket clip.

I am an avid Outdoorsman and woods lover. This knife rivals all the other high end hard use knives in that price point and higher. It is solid construction, extremely smooth deployment, solid lockup, great grippy scales and a very sharp right out of the box 154cm steel blade. I purchased the 4 inch blade and it has far surpassed my expectations. I am now looking at the Hogue Exo-A1 Tanto. Keep up the quality work Hogue. Thanks for an excellent, very dependable EDC.
I've been curious about Hogue for a while and when BHQ put this on sale, I figured I'd take the plunge. As expected, the ergonomics are excellent, (no surprise since they've been making pistol grips forever). The blade is beautifully done and mine came with one of the best factory edges I've ever seen. My only gripe is the action. While totally smooth, it's also VERY stiff and I think I know why. It's the pivot assembly. Hogue has the blade riding on stainless steel "bolster plates" and there are NO washers or bearings on this model. There are three videos on YouTube explaining the construction. If you want to see them, do a search on "Hogue Elishewitz EX01". Despite that, I really like the knife. I just use have to use two hands to open it. That's why I'm giving it four stars instead of five.
