Description:
The Combat Kukri made by Ka-Bar in the USA. This heavy-duty chopper gets it's shape from it's older sibling, the Kukri Machete. At about 80% the size of the larger version, the Combat Kukri performs just as well at clearing brush and small tree limbs. It's smaller profile makes it a little easier for toting around - at just shy of a pound, it's a more appropriately sized tool for combat carry as well.
The Combat Kukri features a matte black coated plain blade. Blade is made from 1095 carbon steel. Knife handle is made from Kraton G which is non-slip, and nearly impervious to sweat, chemicals, water, and wear.
I usually use a parang style blade for my brush clearing and camp making chores. I have used it for 3 years now. This kukri is sized just right and is an ideal weight that you can use it to quickly cut down most small saplings up to 6" diameter as long as your cutting technique is good. You can put a small semi circular grind on the back to the blade for dedicated firesteel duties too.
Have had this thing for years now,and it has held up to the tasks around the campsite such as batoning and shaving tinder. Only problem is that it's a bitch to get sharp if you aren't a master sharpener....but I've learned how to use a whetstone since owning this thing out of necessity. Recommended for camping, not for combat until kabar makes a snap in kydex sheath to come with it.
