The TDI/Hinderer Hinderance draws on the knowledge of two big names in the industry - Rick Hinderer and John Benner. The wharncliffe style blade is matched up to a TDI designed handle to create an effective defense tool and general utility knife. Includes a molded plastic sheath and belt clip.
I ordered this little thing kind of on a whim, just because I really like Wharncliffe reverse tantos. I guess I didn’t really read the stats ‘cause I thought it was going to be a pretty basic blade. Believe me it’s not. For one thing, it’s THICK. I have too many knives that are trying to pass themselves off as tactical, combat, survival, blah blah, but they have the thickness of kitchen knives. This one has the thickness of a real knife. It’s a good little chunk of steel, but that didn’t stop them from putting a wicked edge on it. I ordered a CRKT and a Cold Steel in this same order, and this little Ka-Bar was the sharpest of the three coming out of the box. Another thing I like is the many blade facets, and the fact that it has a spike-like structure to it. The thickness is all the way to the tip instead of becoming paper thin at the tip. I’m very happy with this knife. It lives on the shoulder strap of my bug out bag.
I bought this knife and love it. I carry it in place of a folder now. I wasn't impressed with the position of the belt clip and lack of carry options. A custom Kydex sheath from Red Hill Sheaths remedied this issue. Comfortable, fast and easy to hone to a razor edge. I recommend it for utility and a fast deploying defensive tool. I would like to see some custom micarta scales offered, though. Then it would be perfect....
I was surprised when this knife arrived because I intended to purchase the TDI Large Law Enforcement model to go with the small one I bought a while back. This is a much beefier knife than what I was expecting, nice and sharp, great warncliffe blade shape too. Can definitely see the Hinderer influenced design. The thick blade remains balanced without being too heavy and the plastic (zytel) handle feels comfortable in various grip positions. The retention sheath is nice but does limit carry/deployment options since you've got to get a thumb on the button. Might have to look into an aftermarket sheath like one of the other reviewers.
Great knife. Love the ergos and the blade stock. The sheath - although a great idea on paper - isn't conducive to different carry options and the eyelets are also not conducive to iwb loops or tek-lock setup. Linos makes a great aftermarket kydex sheath and once outfitted with (2) iwb loops, this piece hides well using horizontal/ abdomen carry and super comfortable. Great purchase. Highly recommend.
