The Kershaw Echelon has stellar looks and solid performance. The Echelon features the SpeedSafe assisted opening mechanism and opens with a thumb stud that seems to float on air, hovering in the middle of an over-sized blade cutout. To add to the airy feeling, we used natural G-10 to create a semi-translucent handle that allows you to see the operation of the SpeedSafe mechanism inside. The Echelon also features our Inset Liner Lock and new reversible deep-carry pocketclip for discreet pocket carry.
Great value, solid knife. I think this knife is all about the blade. It is solid with the stock thickness of 0.12" and length of only 3". Hollow grind brings it to a razor sharp edge and it excels on various everyday tasks (cardboard, carving sticks (this blade eats the wood), and slicing apples (one of more challenging tests in my opinion). The scales is another story: quite rough and bite into the fingers when, e.g., carving. used a file to flatten out the back hump, smooth out the edge near the lock, and make a slight groove for the pinky and now it is a 5-star knife. at $48 it is a great value too.
