Description

Description

The Kizer Assist offers a quality design from tactical knife-maker Justin Gingrich. It comes equipped with a powerful spring assisted blade that is activated with a blade flipper. The blade is made from CPM-S35VN steel that comes in a gray Ti coated finish. Black G-10 handle scales, over titanium liners add a solid framework to the knife. It's outfitted with a glass breaker, lanyard hole and a tip-up pocket clip. The Kizer Assist is a reliable daily companion for EDC or tactical use.

I normally don't go the route of an assisted flipper with washers because I work mostly in an office setting, but I bought this as a gift for my brother who works in construction and it was perfect for that setting. The assist works every time and is perfect for gloved hands and the g-10 is good looking and obviously rugged compared to a titanium that would mark up easier. It also has great ergos, and the jimping and g-10 make it a very grippy knife. Now it obviously wasn't as smooth as a Kizer on bearings but if you work around dirt and dust the washers are a better choice. Also: the thumb studs don't seem to be for opening, they're actually an added safety feature to put less stress on the stop pin, which is actually nice but may annoy someone who would rather use thumb studs rather than the flipper. Overall the discounted price is perfect and the fit and finish came exactly as it should have.

Better than 3, not quite a 4. I think there is some value in the knife and I will EDC it to see if it grows on me. For now, for its steel alone, it is a very good value at under $90. The blade is pretty broad and the point seems pretty stout. The quality of the finish was fair. The blade edge seems above average. It is a heavy knife for such a short blade. The ergonomics are pretty good and it is comfortable to hold. The flipper and spring assist are terrible and it opens only partially unless you crank down hard and fast on the flipper. If such things are of value you to you, the knife is gorgeous.
