Description:
From the talented mind of designer James Buckley come the Kizer Maverick Customs Harpoon. The Harpoon is the inspiration behind the Blade HQ exclusive Mini Harpoon. This full sized Harpoon features upgraded CPM 10V steel and American-sourced micarta handle scales.
The first thing you'll notice when you pick up the Harpoon is how light and comfortable it is in your hand. The micarta handle's gentle texturing adds an organic feel to this knife that makes it hard to put down. The Harpoon features a finger choil and thumb indent that makes the knife seem to mold to your hand.
The Harpoon's black finished blade is made from CPM 10V steel, making this knife nearly unparalleled when it comes to edge retention. The blade's steel performs well when it comes to toughness and corrosion resistance as well, making the Harpoon an excellent bridge between a fixed blade EDC and an outdoor knife.
Maverick Customs Knife & Tool offers a wide variety of purpose built knives and EDC tools from designer James Buckley. His aim is to provide quality cutlery that lasts year after year and job after job.
I think I own about a dozen Kizer knives, mostly folders. But I decided I wanted something in 10V steel and discovered through your steel breakdowns that Kizer was offering the Mavericks in 10V, and searched them out. Now I own both the 3"Mini and this 3.75" full size ( though both are pocketable under the right clothing conditions!). Wow! I love them both! They both feature 10V steel, with which I have become very comfortable. I was very excited to reseach the steel, and surprised to learn its history. I don't fully understand why it fell out of favor. But of course it's primarily due to the many multi-capable steels that have been developed in recent years (perform, or move aside!) And now we have the new phenom; CPM Magnacut, which really is multi-capable, but I don't want CPM20CV and S35/45VN and others to disappear! There is still room for those, and the European and Swedish steels, and myriad others to mèet the needs of the knife community! But the Kizer Mavericks, right now, hold a special place in my heart!
