The Matt Degnan designed Roach knife is an exciting Kizer model that's made its way to their Vanguard lineup. It has a wide spear point style N690 stainless steel blade with a gray titanium coating. The handle is contoured black G-10 with a G-10 backspacer and a stainless steel liner lock frame. The pocket clip is oriented for tip-up carry and marked with a Roach logo.
Great knife expected it to be a little bigger, based on the reviews but its honestly the perfect size. The ergonomics of it are amazing for medium to large hands. Only thing to complain about is wishing I could get the blade smith version in G10.
Replacing my edc Kershaw jyd 2...the knives may look similar...but...they are actually quite different. tip up vs tip down, actual dimensions, handle feel...there is no mistaking one in the hand vs the other. I have some muscle memory retraining ahead of me,carried the jyd2 for about 12 years...but with that said, the Kizer is a worthy successor solid as a rock, razor sharp out of the box, extremely well made. Probably one of the best value for dollar made knives on the market today.
My hesitation came from the country of construction, however this is great knife. The fit and finish are great. The steel sharpens up very quickly and it cuts/ takes a beating very well. Iv'e had this knife since Christmas 2017 and it has done great. The price point in very low compared to the value of the knife itself. If you are on a budget and need reliable steel this is a great option. Owned this knife for nearly two years went so far as to baton the spine through thick pine branches holds up nice. Tightens back up fine. Still a great knife.
Yes, it's a fat knife. The handle is a little smooth, but it's still a great knife. It's solid and well worth the money. I have 4 Kizer knives and have never been disappointed!
Great knife ordered it it took almost two week to come but was worth the wait overall great knife even though it’s made in China it raises the bar for China the knife is made with good quality and does not feel like a cheap knife the lockup is solid it’s worth your moneys worth I would compare it almost to a 200$ Dollar knife it’s crazy to know that Spyderco sells a small knife called the delica it’s nice I own one but your paying more for it but kizer is changing the game with cheaper prices and more steel for your buck highly recommend this knife to anyone
The quality of this knife far exceeds its price. Good steel with a deep flat grid that comes centered and snaps to attention. The scales are very ergo, the clip is effective and out of the way. Even with it’s weight and width, it does a great job of hiding in your pocket. It could have come a little sharper, but that is easily solved. If you are looking for a little more heft in your EDC rotation, the Roach is a great option. Recommend.
I have a lot of knives ranging from budget to high end models, but this is the one knife I always go back to when I'm looking to carry something. Surprisingly slim in the pocket and super durable. Would never sell this for anything.
The Kizer Vanguard Roach is simply a must own knife for everyone that loves knives. The spear point blade is stunning with a generous finger choil that you can actually use to choke up on the blade which is so rarely found on folders. The over all look and feel is simple yet refined, it is not too fancy to use but still offers something impressive to look at. The G10 is machined to perfection and superbly comfortable. No hot spot from the pocket clip, The handle shape offers 3 grip positions to handle any type of task. It is built solid with stainless liners and hardware so you can be confident it is up to medium duty cutting tasks without breaking. The flipper action is insanely good, the best flipper I own hands down. The knife has a thin profile and it is neither too big nor too small for EDC. If you have been on the fence about the roach or any Kizer for that matter just get a roach, you will not be disappointed. The only way to improve on this knife is to upgrade the materials which Kizer has done with the Bladesmith Titanium version of the roach... I say own the Vanguard roach for EDC and Buy the Bladesmith roach if you are a collector... But either way Buy a Roach...
This knife is smooth with a boastful profile... Not to mention its badass and hardcore beastly design and weight! I thought a heavy flipper would be hard to carry, but it has been a pleasure and virtually invisible! It flips very well, thanks to the ball-bearing pivot. The blade is fairly heavy vg10 so it's not a "quick" flipper. But it is quick enough for its size! Robust and hardcore it's blade shape allows it to slice through anything! Plus "straight impact" puncturing/ stabbing is very easy. The clip has a beautifully polished shine look with a cockroach etched into it. Tip-up/ right-hand carry only. Beautiful BLUE G10 backspacer adds a splash of color on an already beautifully designed blade. I know the picture shows a "black" backspacer, but it is BLUE. The black diamond coating on the blade does not show any scuffs or scratches so far, and seems to be holding up VERY well. For the price this knife will ABSOLUTELY exceed your hopes and expectations! It did for me! Pick one up today!
This is a well built, sturdy knife. The handle is comfortable with it without using the finger choil, and despite the lack of jimping or texturing anywhere, it locks very securely into your hand. The only reason I don't carry it more often is the size of this thing closed. It is very tall and it can be difficult to reach your hand past the knife to get other items out of your pocket. Other than that, this knife is great.
I purchased 6 of these last year for Christmas presents. All six of these knives have failed. After some use the locking system does not work. I have contacted BLADEHQ the information. They will not do anything. I contacted Kizer it took them 12 e-mails but they replaced one of the knives and guess what not the one knive it did it again! I have other Kizer knives and they are great never one problem. The Kizer Roach is their lowest quality knife and it shows.
