Didn't pay attention to the somewhat smaller size until after ordering even though I watched a few videos - pleasantly surprised when I received it. Really like it and had to get the rainbow trout scales. They match perfectly with the black blade and associated hardware.
I’m gonna try to keep this short and sweet. It’s Ben. “Whhhaaaattt issss up guys” we love him, he’s an industry icon. The knife is amazing, it’s simple, it’s well built, I love that you can change the scales in two minutes. It’s amazing, my wife isn’t into knifes at all and immediately commented on how smooth the action was lol.
This knife has quickly found its way into my tier 1 rotation. The size is perfect for me - not too big - not too small. I have a Banter also designed by Ben Peterson in my rotation, but I think I like the Lander better mostly because if its slimmer profile. The quick-change scales are way cool! I can't wait for more options to come available. Right now I have black on one side and white on the other. I call it my Cruella DeVille knife. The possibilities blow my mind! Aside from the cool factor of the changeable scales, this is a solid knife. Deployment is lighting fast. Retraction is smooth and effortless. Everything about the knife demonstrates attention to detail and quality. I highly recommend it!
Everything about this knife is awesome, except for one thing. The jimping on the top of the blade isn’t very intuitive. That being said, the fast swap scales are fantastic, I’ve already swapped green G10 scales onto mine. The action is smooth, the deep carry clip is great, and the blade is quite sharp from factory. Not to mention the fact there isn’t massive branding all over the blade like Kershaw and Ontario knives generally have. Truly a fantastic knife, from a fantastic designer.
It’s a good cheap little knife but I feel the retail price is overpriced. Even at the sale price I feel like it’s $10 more than it should be. At the end of the day it’s a little civivi knife in D2 but it is a good design. Good action, good clip, and decent ergos. There is just better out there at this price point right now.
I watched the video about this knife coming out and they mentioned that the Influence of the knife was the CRKT Drifter and another which I do not remember. The drifter has been in my pocket for about ten years now. I have many more expensive knives just like the rest of you but, the drifter, due to the over all size has always found it's way into my pocket. The Drifter was a very inexpensive knife of like $15 bucks. I never liked the name of the knife or the blade design for that matter but it was the overall size of the knife and simplicity of it that has made it my go to pocket more often than my many other knives. Of course the inexpensiveness of it made it a "beater" for me. I bought the lander because of the "influence" from the drifter. This knife is just about perfect as far as size, blade etc. The only thing I am disappointed by with this knife is the overall size of the pocket clip. It seems overly big for the size of the knife and wish they had come closer to the size of the clip on the drifter which in my humble opinion is the perfect "fit" for this size knife. Specifically how much space between the knife and clip. Anyway the Knife is almost perfect and hope they may in the future consider either making a more "drifter like" clip for this knife. Looking at the Benchmade mini grip and the drifter to get an idea of what I mean. Other than that I am very happy with it and it will replace the drifter regardless.
Kind of disappointed. The knife is fantastic! But for the same money, you can get a Civivi, that comes with a nice pouch, a cloth and stickers. This is a knife, with directions on how to spend more money by buying different scales. What iiiiis Up With That?
I ordered two Landers from BHQ to go with two awesome scale setups (Moon + James Webb) because I happen to have a limited Mars rover Lander knife, and wanted to display a "space set" of three. Sadly, both the ones I got from BHQ arrived with un-sealed boxes and screws on one side which were stripped/un-removable. This led to none of the scales being able to be swapped, and thus defeated the entire purpose. Thankfully BHQ has great support so am returning the entire order. I haven't decided if I'm going to try again or not, something I would like to have, but not if the hardware is 50/50 hit-or-miss.
