Customer Reviews

Everything I wanted and more
Dane F. on Jun 13, 2021

Came to buy a Kalashnikov in order to remove the spring and make it "CA compliant". Decided to see what other plunge locks were in-stock and found this knife. Now I'm eating Ramen for a month. Worth every penny.

Much to like, but a few misses.
TIMOTHY J. on Jan 23, 2021

The reviews here and elsewhere are overwhelmingly positive and I agree. However, mine was not very sharp out of the box. It took a while on the KME and now is razor sharp. Also, I felt the flipper tab was too large given how smooth and easy the action. I ground off about 1/16 inch and it still works great and is nicer in the pocket.

Well Executed Design!
Mark C. on Oct 10, 2020

A hard to get knife, but well worth the wait. The Malibu feels well constructed and is a perfect edc. The flipping action is buttery smooth and the perfectly centered blade drops effortlessly when the button is deployed. Detent is perfect and the blade was very sharp. A must have for anyone who appreciates a well designed edc.

Great Button lock / Not Automatic
Joe G. on Oct 10, 2020

As a NY resident I can't carry an automatic. So I was interested when I saw a Pro-Tech non-auto. Great fidget knife. Really like the button lock mechanism. As a lefty it is usable although clip is not changeable. I like the fact it is not another g-10 framelock flipper. The action is great, well centered, came sharp, no play. Good deep carry clip. The stock is a little thicker than I expected on the blade. Not a bad thing and certainly not an issue. But I bias toward thin slicey folder blades and if heavy duty use needed use a thicker fixed blade. I like the reverse tanto. All-in-all great knife. Top 5 for 2020. Would enjoy a little more texture or visual flare on the handles.

More please
KEITH H. on Sep 30, 2020

This knife is fantastic. It's a perfect size for a daily carry. It came out of the box perfectly centered. Deployment is smooth and the button lock is super comfortable to use. BEWARE, don't get this knife if you don't like drop shut knives. However, if you do, its incredibly satisfying to play with and convenient to use for daily tasks. Overall, fantastic would buy again. Only areas that could use slight improvement in my opinion: the detent is just a hair lighter than I like, and the factory edge wasn't anything to write home about. All in all I really hope Pro-Tech keeps moving in this direction.

Blade grind
Jon V. on Jul 23, 2021

I like this knife but was very disappointed in the uneven blade grind. It is ground much higher on one side than the other. It could be a perfect knife if they could manage their quality control...and NO, I am not going to send it in to fix something that never should have been sent out to begin with.

Very disappointing
Joshua F. on May 26, 2023

Finally managed to snag one. Despite knowing the dimensions it was slightly smaller in hand than I was expecting; which was fine. The aluminum, although not textured, was actually pleasantly grippy with a powdery feel. Unfortunately, in person, said aluminum scales seemed slightly off and looked cheap where they line up in the back. The knife would be better served with a back spacer imho. The blade had a horribly uneven grind and is in the top 3 for dullest factory edge of any knife I've bought in recent years. The "detent" was much too strong and the lock up wasn't great because there was a lot of side to side play in the blade. On top of that it had terrible lock stick that I've only seen once before on a $45 Chinese button lock. So overall, especially with all the years of hype for this knife, mine was very disappointing. I have nine other button locks that range from half to a fifth of the price of the Malibu and they all functioned better out of the box. Maybe I just got a bad one, but I was expecting more quality from a quality American made knife. Luckily Blade HQ has a quick and easy return policy and I already have my refund.
