Description

The Field Pup is the right size and weight, suitable for a variety of outdoor sporting tasks. It's comfortable to use with its slightly yielding Kraton molded handle that form fits the full tang blade. SOG's trademarked finger grips are combined with aggressive thumb notches on the back of the blade, making the Field Pup a real working knife. The blade is also protected by a leather sheath.

Took 1 star for sheath. It works for a camp knife, but itís bare minimum.

Took 1 star for balance. Itís handle-heavy.

GOOD:
It came razor sharp; I shaved my arm w/ it right out of the box. Grip is very good. Not quite great. Texture is abrasive (good) and it fills my hand well. Finger jumping on the spine of the blade is nice.

BAD:
The finger groves are smooth. Blade is thinner than Iíd like. Blade steel isnít super hard. Very usable, but the edge dulls quick. You can get it razor sharp, though. I hate the ďCHINAĒ stamp on the blade.

OVERALL:
Itís a great beater for the $23-$30 price tag. For a camp knife, itís actually pretty ok. Not great if you plan to baton or chop w/ it, but for light use, itís fine and it doesnít hurt to use and abuse it. The sheath really does suck, though. (It comes w/ the very very basic leather sheath, not the nylon sheath.)
