I feel like giving my green-handled Spyderco Bow River 1 star for how dull it arrived but that's not BladeHQs fault. The bottom inch of the blade wasn't even sharpened & the top half couldn't cut through a receipt cleanly right after I took it out of the box. Does Spyderco not sharpen these cheaper knives? My last expensive SC knife wasn't very sharp either, it only takes them a few seconds to run the knife between their two wheels or whatever they use at the factory. I used it once for dinner and then spent over an hour cleaning my strop to make it like new, then used the rest of my polishing compound to load it up & spent another hour stropping the Chinese steel and all it did was make my strop dirty & black again. The knife was SO DULL that a 2 sided strop freshly loaded couldn't put any kind of edge on it. I shouldn't complain too much cause thankfully I have a good model wicked edge but at this point, I feel like just plugging in the work sharp & spending 2 minutes sharpening it like Spyderco should have. Only difference is my KO sharpener would actually make it cut. I feel like this 8cr13 steel is gonna be awful, time will tell. We will see how long the edge holds after the WE puts a polished edge on it. I waited A Long Time to buy one of these knives & I Really hope Spyderco releases it with better steel, even if it's not stainless steel That should keep the price pretty low but I would pay more for one with the excellent M390 or even S30V. I wanna finish by saying the knife looks great! The fit and finish was top notch & the customer service from BHQ was too. I mostly bought this knife to use it as a steak knife, I'll see if it can even cut through a filet mignon, that is if I don't sharpen it beforehand.
