This Blade HQ Exclusive is surely one to be excited about! This variation of the Spyderco Dodo has a fully serrated M4 blade in a satin finish and a natural G-10 handle!
The Dodo is one of the most striking and unique Spyderco designs to come from the mind of Eric Glesser. Being personal fans here at Blade HQ, we had to bring back this long discontinued model and give it the natural G-10 and M4 steel treatment with fully serrated SpyderEdge! The C80GM4S is a limited edition Blade HQ Exclusive folder is sure to go quick!
Spyderco has received endless comments about the Dodo's unconventional, unusual appearance. It's a 'little big knife' that was 'designed in the dark' (and should be judged by its ergonomics) which is manufactured with top-drawer materials and features. Take our challenge -- put it in your hand, cut with it, then let us know what you think.
One of its curious features is its blade shape. Although the blade has less than two inches of cutting edge, the curved belly supplies big cutting capability and its downward-pointed tip is intended for detailed/fine cutting. To create a fistful of leveraging points, the G-10 handle is fashioned in a grouping of finger choils ending in a tail. The tail becomes both a pinky shelf and a striking tool.
For the Dodo specifically, Spyderco developed the Ball Bearing Lock. It works by dropping a pea-sized ball of steel into a recess on the blade's tang, locking the blade open. Once in the recess, the ball is compressed by the open blade and can't move or wobble. A remarkably strong locking system, that rates for MBC and heavy-duty on Spyderco's lock strength scale. To unlock, pull back on the ball, which is accessible on both sides of the knife for left/right handed use. Flexible wire tension-clip carries ambidextrously, tip-up. Made in Golden, Colorado.
Iiiiit's the zuzziest... it's the zazziest... it's the zoobly... doobly.. dazzliest!
Why does it look so mean? Must be those teeth! Very manacing for something so small. This style of knife will be that much more useful with the serrated SpyderEdge. Finally a perfected version!
I wasn't expecting to like this so much. I bought 1 and liked it so much I ordered 2 more for the safe. It's perfect for opening packages, bags, cutting g hose, and rope. The handle fits my large to x-large hand size nicely. The design gives you total control when cutting. Such a wonderful little knife. Now I'm on the search for the plain-edged version! Don't hesitate to try this 1 out because the resale should be good since they are hard to find from what I can see.
I have been trying to justify secondary market prices for a Dodo since they were first discontinued. I am glad to finally be able to purchase one at retail price (I got two). This knife is lightweight, compact, sturdy, and great at cutting stuff. I see people compare this knife to others, saying it is limited in application and usefulness, and that the lock is troublesome to close with one hand. I see other comments that it is difficult to sharpen, and that it doesn't afford alternative grip options. Those comments are not incorrect...but if that is what you want, get a Delica or Endura. Get a Military or Benchmade Bugout. Get a knife that looks and functions like every other, well vetted knife. The fact is...you already have one of them. This is a specialized knife designed to do one thing exceptionally well: Intuitive, gross-motor movement slashes. I teach threat mitigation and weapon handling, and have been training in close quarter combat and blade handling since the 90s. This knife is designed to pull cut, and can do that extremely well. Look at the Civilian or Matriarch. These knives are (Occasionally) sold with a disclaimer that the knife is not intended for utility, or some paraphrase of that statement. The Dodo, while an efficient cutter and slicer, is (from a specialist's perspective) designed to be legal, easy to carry, discreet, and apply a disproportionate amount of pressure on the cutting edge. In short, it can make "to the hilt" depth of cuts very easily, and without any training on blade orientation or grip angle. It is a fighting knife. There is plenty of evidence to support the utility of this knife, but that is true of any sharp object. If you want a general purpose, do-everything knife, a hundred knife makers have built a thousand good choices. They are available at Wall-Mart,Costco, and every sporting goods store on the planet. If you want a knife that is unlikely to violate any blade length regulations, anywhere, and is capable of dramatic performance under stress, this guy might be worth a second look. Mine will probably see some utility, pruning, snipping, and cutting...but I use my knives and keep them sharp. I hope you do, too.
I’ve always wanted one of these knives. Though odd looking it is actually a very ergonomic and functional tool. My only issue is with the ball lock. It’s a little difficult to manipulate especially with larger fingers. Wish it was the Spyderco bolt lock or an Axis lock. Don’t get me wrong it’s still a phenomenal knife.
Always wanted one of these and missed the opportunities before but I am glade I didn't miss this one. The Dodo with the Spyder edge has transformed this into one mean little bird.
Great EDC for light tasks, steel holds an edge well. I have wanted one of these for a while but too expensive on the secondary market. Bladehq always has great customer service, A+
I love this thing so much, I live on a ranch and use this thing every day. The ergonomics on this thing are great! And you gotta love the bhq touch on it, cpm M4 and jade g-10. like I said I live on a ranch and use it every day.it has like a million different uses, like ripping open feed bags, getting gunk out from horse hoofs, cutting rope, and so many more things. Some people do not like the look, but man do I like it. This just an amazing knife. If you contemplating whether to get it or not, just do it, heck buy two. You will not regret this purchase.
I'll cut right to it, this is an ugly knife. It looks really wierd. But I ADORE it. This knife reminds me of my Bistro Crocs, they are U G L Y, but they are the best pair of shoes I own. Razor sharp right out of the box, sliced my pinky as I was closing it for the first time like it was butter. BUY. THIS. KNIFE.
this is my first Spyderco. I purchased it for work. Ground beef edge cutting was sawing through and hocking with the bill hook is ideal. the hook point works extremely well with draw cuts on mother bags. the short length with a longer handle is great for this purpose-driven knife. On the flip side, I would have liked a softer hold and better action. I absolutely had this permanent lock tight or super-glued even on clip-on high-value knives. not as bad as Benchmade Osborne. In color, this transparent jade is only loved by its mother and a collector who doesn't know better.
I normally like knives that are different and I have like 26 Spyderco's and wish this would have been a standard blade not serrated this is going to be tough to sharpen and I think it is over priced the standard was around $24 cheaper. But I do really like the knife it took a long long time to be able to purchase one. And it is very sharp and unique and I like that. Thank you James A.
I think this knife matches its name in the way it looks and how much it cost it’s trash just like being censored saying words why would you name the knife that lol Hopefully this review isn’t deleted again because this is my honest opinion and people should be able to share their opinion on products honestly. Otherwise we’re censored like the big tech companies highly ticked off that my review was taking down don’t think I will be a customer anymore. Yeah this is the second time now I’m re-posting my review. So now we’re at the point with companies censoring reviews to make a product look better than what it is my honest opinion is this is garbage and way overpriced I own several Spyderco knives and probably will never buy another knife off of any website that’s going to censor my review. Highly disgusted with blade HQ‘s filtering system I never was belligerent on my review but I can tell that there’s censoring garbage is everywhere and I won’t be supporting any business that sensors my reviews
