First experience with the LW. Have always shied away due to the FRN and inability to take apart. The full fat version is my favorite daily. I must say I was extremely impressed by the blade centering and the excellent action. If you can deal with the mint color, this is a steal for M4 steel. Best value manix 2 I’ve seen in years. -JH
Great M4 blade steel, feels amazing in the hand and the color is just so nice. The pocket clip is less than desirable. Other than that great price great knife. if you’re on the fence just go for it.
Read reviews for a while, some folks saying it was too big for EDC, I held off. Saw this with M4, which I have never had, so finally gave in an got one, and very happy with it! Love the LW for a knife this size, and I usually carry in my waist band, so size has not bothered me. The mint green looks OK when knife is sitting on nightstand, but poking our of waistband, or pocket, oof. I see lots of folks like the color, not sure it will grow on me, obviously entirely subjective, but I love the knife, and excited to use M4 for the first time. Definitely recommend to anyone on the fence on this knife.
The only thing I would change is to add the new Manix 2 LW Screws on the body. It is a great Light Weight work knife. I love CPM M4 and this came razor sharp. Been carrying this for three days already.
I liked the BHQ Mint M4 Sage so much that I purchased the Mint M4 Manix as well. The LW Manix is a favorite (own 3 of them) because it's very sturdy and remarkably lightweight for a big blade and an extremely solid lock...that self adjusts over time. The action on the M4 Manix is just right for me. And: great price. You won't be seeing any sort of Manix at this price in the future, is my guess, especially not an excellent, aggressive PM steel like M4.
I have always liked the Manix 2 I have the original lightweight with the translucent blue handle, a great knife but BD1 steel is not impressive at all. I have no experience with BD1N, I have the purple G10 version as well with S110 and it is great steel but the knife is a little heavy, I love M4 steel and that is why I purchased this knife, the mint green is cool and a good conversation piece I always get comments from non knife nuts but I really don’t care what color the handle is I just can’t get enough of M4 steel. I wish all spyderco knives came in a M4 version. Great knife light easy to carry great slicer perfect size grip super fast action open and closing everything you want in an EDC, buy it you won’t be disappointed!
I actually really like this knife, the FRN feels much better on here than the Bugout. I'm very happy to get M4 steel at this price, the only thing I wish was different was the manipulation of the ball bearing lock, it's really stiff action. I don't know if it is because it needs to break in or what. over all this is a really nice knife. This is my first manix and I love it! (edit): I put some heavy weight KPL on the ball bearing and it is much smoother!
Most things about this knife are great. The two downsides are the scales and the clip. If you want to change the scales on this particular spyderco... you can't, they are riveted on. The other being the wire clip being bendy and not symmetrical. But all you have to do to fix that is to buy the lynchnw replacement clip available on bladehq.
Would have been amazing if it had the new screw down construction so you could do maintenance and improve the very stiff action, loosening the pivot screw did little to improve this.
This is the first Spyderco that I've purchased. I think that the price point of most Spyderco knives put me off but this seemed like a decent entry level knife to try the brand while getting a high performance steel. The action on this knife is smooth. I've mostly been living with bearing knives so the action on this washer based knife takes a bit of getting used to. Added a drop of nano oil and it just seems to keep getting smoother. The plastic scales feel somewhat cheap but they are solid, and for a spyderco this is cheap, so i can't gripe too much. The ergonomics are fantastic. Incredibly comfortable in the hand and feels totally secure. The scales are grippy and the jimping on the blade leaves me feeling locked into the knife. Love that. The only things that I didn't care for could be quite personal. The lock seems solid, but the action isn't very smooth. As the spring compresses it almost feels rough or crunchy. It does work though and the lock up feels secure My last gripe is about the wire clip. it seems unnecessarily shallow. The clip was also incredibly strong and I had to give it a wee bit of attention to stop the knife eating my pants. I was unsure about whether to buy a Spyderco in the first place, and now that I have one I'm unsure if I will buy another. If I had a large knife budget that would be easier, but for now this is likely to be my one and only Spyderco. I can still recommend this for sure, but I am just not sure it is right for me.
I love everything about this knife. Except the clip. Not sure if there are any other options out there, but this clip is the weakest, flimsiest, irritating piece of afterthought I have ever encountered in a high quality knife. This knife is soo easy to use, and feels just right.
Feels like a toy. Love the color of the scales but didnt realize how blocky they would feel in hand. Why rivets? Dont do that.
