Description

Description

The Spyderco Police has been a mainstay in the Spyderco catalog since its introduction in the 1980's. This Police 4 model builds off the popular design and adheres to Spyderco's policy of constant quality improvement. It's been upgraded with a full flat ground blade made from Bohler K390 blade steel. Skeletonized steel liners, a stainless backspacer, and textured G-10 handle scales provide excellent structural strength and a solid grip. A 4-way stainless steel pocket clip completes the updated design.

Features:
  • Bohler-Uddeholm K390 particle metallurgy steel offers a strong blade for high-performance edge retention.
  • Textured G-10 handle scales provide a secure grip and maximum structural strength.
  • Includes a 4-way reversible pocket clip for versatile pocket carry.

I think this is the best folder that Spyderco makes.

Obviously it will work best for people with larger hands with a preference for big folders. Despite being as large as it is, it carries incredibly well. It's very slim. Ergonomics are excellent.

The blade is full flat ground, 3mm thick, and has a full distal taper. It comes ground thin behind the edge from the factory, giving the Police 4 incredible cutting performance. It outclasses the Military folder.

The K390 has surprised me with how corrosion resistant it is for a carbon steel. Takes a great edge, and holds it longer than any other steel I've tried.

Can't say a bad thing about it. Loved the Police 3, and the Police 4 improves on it.

For medium blade size kitchen use or for emergency defensive use I give this knife 5 stars. However for hard use EDC I would have to give it 4 stars, due to the fact that it is just a little bit too long for a general purpose utility knife. This still a great rating from me even with one star off. Itís purpose is fine slicing. It is possibly a bit too long of a handle to fit into some jean pockets, however it is certainly thin enough to fit into any pocket. For slacks and cargo pants at least, what you see poking out above the clip looks elegant enough, and doesnít give away the actual size. This could be carried discreetly in the workplace, but I would recommend pairing it with a smaller knife that costs less for box cutting.

The blade alignment in the handle of mine has stayed perfect for 5 years and it is possibly the best slicer I own. I sliced a bottle with it in a one in a million swing, the bottle didnít come apart until I picked it up by the cap and the top half separated and the water rushed out!

There is a flaw on the grind in mine near the tip, which was a workmanship error that slipped by quality control, and the back lock isnít quite flush with the liners. That is still hard to notice and it still looks beautiful and functions perfectly.

This knife is amazing. I am a professional chef, so I use this as a utility knife in the kitchen. The slim blade profile is perfect for prep work when I dont have my chef knife handy. It fits in my large hands perfectly. The slim profile makes it disappear in the pocket. Edge retention is great. Sharpening is a breeze. I have bought a couple knives since then, but this is the one that always finds it way back into my pocket. It has developed a beautiful patina over time, which makes it uniquely mine. Keep up the food work. Oh and bladehq's in store customer service was great. If you have the chance, visit their store, it's a knife enthusiasts mecca.

Do you wish the Endura was bigger with a steel frame and a blade that's comparable to M4? Then boy are you gonna love this knife!

All joking aside, this knife is excellent, if a little niche. It's flat and relatively thin (especially for its size!) and carries well for a blade this length. The full flat grind combined with a steel that will hold a hell of an edge means this is a slicer-for-sure. The forward choil means you can one-hand close this with no risk to your fingers and the action is smooth enough to allow this.

Downsides? It's a big damn knife and the steel isn't particularly corrosion resistant.

This is my favorite BIG knife, especially paired with a Dragonfly or maybe a Delica for more precise/friendly work. Well worth the price!
