This Blade HQ Exclusive Shaman from Spyderco features DLC black-finished CPM-M4 blade steel, black-coated steel liners, and green canvas micarta scales. This modern classic is expected to move fast, so don't miss out!
Description:
The Spyderco Shaman is a larger, more capable version of the iconic Native design theme. This model is built with a plain-edged CPM M4 steel blade. Its handle sports ergonomic canvas micarta scales over skeletonized stainless steel liners, keeping the Shaman lightweight and comfortable. Top it off with a high-strength Compression Lock mechanism and a four-position pocket clip, and you have one solid EDC folder from Spyderco.
Spyderco folders are so popular for a reason! Find the perfect EDC companion for you from our selection!
The Shaman has a few quirks including the sharp jimping that protrudes awkwardly when the blade is closed, and the point of the choil will collide with your pointer finger depressing the compression lock as it closes into the handle. That being said, every time I open it I feel like I’ve got a fist full of awesome with a handle that feels made for my hand. I absolutely love the ability to choke way up onto the generous choil and the blade shape and grind favor my cutting needs. This is my first micarta scale knife so I’m interested to see how it wears in.
I have a big collection of folding knives, including another Shaman. This Shaman looks fantastic with its green Micarta and black plain blade. Spyderco puts a razor sharp edge which has been easy for me to maintain no matter what I’ve been hacking on. Spyderco Shaman has become a serious favorite EDC for me. I use it for all kinds of tasks around the farm and out camping. I’ve even used it to baton wood. I’m a huge fan of the Paramilitary 2 knife as well.
I've loved the Shaman for a while, and I jumped at the chance to get a black M4 version. I'll see if it lives up to the hype. This version is executed perfectly and is really sharp. The standout is the Micarta scales. They feel silky smooth but still have a good grip. I feel the color is misleading as it seems more brown than green. They appear worn in some spots which makes them look vintage. Overall this is a great option.
Love at first sight and touch. Excellent fit and reassuring grip. Razor-sharp CPM M4 steel.
Looks awesome, feels great. Got one when they dropped. Fast 2day shipping. Fit and finish is good. Some off putting reviews on here, I'd rate 5 stars. Edge is razor sharp as always. Grind is the slightest to one side barely noticeable unless you're using a magnify glass. Not every knife edge comes out of factory with laser precision. Out of box I could spider flick it and would need to assist drop shutting. Literally took 1min to pull out a t10 and make an adjustment. Blade centering went spot on and buttery smooth action. Definitely recommend while still available.
Action was better than expected out of the box. Couldn’t be happier and love this configuration.
Awesome knife, I just had to tighten the pivot a little bit. I’d definitely get one while they’re still in stock. Even if it’s not centered it can easily be fixed. The knife center s90v was way off but it was an easy fix. Don’t miss out.
I was very disappointed when I received it. The action was very stiff and not centered. I would expect that out of the box when you pay over $250. I have, to no avail tried to work it but it is too stiff or blade play. Will continue to try. The pivot keeps loosening it, but right now I’m hesitant to apply blue lock tight when I haven’t found the optimal action function. The knife looks really good other than that.
Received the knife and the blade is extremely sharp, feels great in the hand and fits well in the pocket considering its size. The color is a nice OD green/brown that ties in nicely with the black liners and hardware. That said, the blade is extremely off center. I would normally adjust that, but all of the screws are so stiff that it feels like red loctite. Taking it to a shop to have them check so that I don't break any screws. The DLC coating is also inconsistent on the blade.
I’m doing this on mobile so it has no guide as to what the star rating should be. I’d give it a 2 1/2 to a 3. I was so excited to get this knife. I had my Black DLC M4 Yojimbo stolen right after I got it so I thought this was my time. It came in a Blade HQ box which is a great touch nestled with packing peanuts. I immediately noticed the Spyderco box was bent & that worried me. It comes with tons of little pieces of paper including a special piece of paper telling me about how special this sprint run is & that got me excited to look at it. When I took it out it it looked great. The canvas micarta is of good quality & the color is exactly what I’d want. The DLC is nice & the all black hardware is such a great touch. Now we get to the rough part. I truly hate to leave a negative review on a great place. The blade was off center before I opened it. Just a bit. I tried to open it. I couldn’t. I needed to open it two handed & then eventually could do it extremely slowly one handed. It doesn’t smooth out over tons of openings & closings & I expected a knife that was at least somewhat easy to open one handed. No play, which is nice, but that’s at the cost of little to no action. I injured myself just trying to mess with it. For a folder this expensive it shouldn’t be this way. The quality control should be through the roof but it doesn’t seem to be. The grind is off too, with the tip grind on one side being noticeably thicker than the other. The other side had an uneven grind as well, kind of like someone ground it not enough in the middle so it has a wave to the thickness. I’m disabled (but hands are strong so that’s not the problem) so I’m on a small fixed income but I saved up for when something like this would come across to replace my lost Yojimbo which was perfection. This specific one isn’t the one. It’s also frustrating that I can’t contact Blade HQ on weekends either to exchange it with one that works decently since this is a sprint run & they may run out before I get to talk to anyone. Anywho, some may call me nitpicky but I think there are likely mostly fantastic ones out there & a couple like this. Just be aware when buying that this could happen.
After only having this knife for a few days I have to say I'm rather disappointed with it. I've been waiting for an exclusive I was interested in to purchase my first Shaman and this was the one. Blade HQ was great and got it here extremely fast which is always appreciated. The Shaman feels great in hand and the knife looks amazing even better in person than online. That's about where the good ends for me, unfortunately. As soon as I opened the box and took a look at the knife I saw that the centering was off which was an immediate letdown. The knife opened semi smoothly/easily the first couple of times then became super stiff. I've had Spydercos that needed a little break-in before so that wasn't the end of the world. Since then I've been working the knife open close repeatedly and it hasn't loosened up a bit. You couldn't spidy flick this knife if you were the Hulk. I have a friend who is having the same issues with his as well. For spending this much for a knife that apparently has QC issues this knife has been a bummer so far. I'll update the review if I'm able to ever get it broken in
