This is a collector's piece we recently acquired and is in mint condition! The knife doesn't appear to have been used or even carried. Includes original box/papers.

The Spyder ate the Fly. The SpyderFly infuses traditional Balisong (or Butterfly) knife elements with innovative Spyderco features. Balis are all about swinging, sometimes called doing the dance. Eric Glesser, the designer of the SpyderFly, incorporates Spyderco’s Trademark Round Hole into both handles. The holes position the thumb and fingers (pinching either side of the handle) for superb control while indexing/rotating and enhancing fluidity of the swing. Contours and valleys lining the handle offer friction resistance keeping The Fly firmly in grip while maneuvering. A spring-loaded locking lever attaches to either handle for left- or right-hand use and locks the blade closed (but not open) for safe carry inside a pocket. Squeezing the handles together releases the lock’s lever. The blade is VG-10, that is hollow-ground and sharpened on one side only. Straight down the center of the blade, a dagger grind balances out both sides of the knife, again designed for smoother and even swinging. Manipulating the wire pocket clip to either handle or either side of the knife sets it up for a variety of carry options and draw positions. The SpyderFly links all that is utilitarian in a traditional Balisong with innovative features you’ve come to expect from Spyderco.

Collector's item!

I bought this knife from a collector for $255 (retail used to be $99). I've since had offers up to $350 for it, but nope, its not goin anywhere. If you see one for sale (a rarity; I found mine on Armslist), and you love balis, I wouldn't hesitate.

Flips VERY nice, has a great feel to it (even though it is heavier than most balis), and rollovers and such really carry themselves. Doesn't lock open, but this is more of a flipper than a utility knife anyways, so thats not really an important feature for me as someone who has multiple EDC blades.

Surface rust occurs only on exceptionally humid days or when it rains and the knife is in my pocket, both on the blade and the inside of the handles. No big deal to remove though, usually a fingernail does the trick, or very fine steel wool.

The pivots get "gritty" or squeaky only after lots of flipping and no lube, but they've never walked loose on me, and RemOil or FireClean restore them to full swing in no time. Just typical knife maintenance on rare occasions. Very little play in the handles when closed.

After many many hours (probably days worth) of flipping, the spring for the latch broke at both legs, robbing me of the spring-loaded lock feature. I contacted Spyderco and they said they don't have any spares or even the specs to make me a new one. Hopefully I can find someone.

All-in-all, these are great knives, and formerly an icon of the Spyderco brand, so demand is high. Hard to believe these used to go for less than half of what comparable balis do today.
