The design skills of martial artist Laci Szabo go far beyond knives, as evidenced by his SzaboHawk, a close-quarters-combat weapon and a functional tool. Defining features include the long arcing handle and bearded head with finger hole and Spydie hole. The SzaboHawk has a 0.30" thick D2 tool steel construction with a TiCN black finish and secure, comfort-oriented G-10 scales. A molded Boltaron sheath completes the package.
I had the pentagon shape cut around the large upper hole with a hydro jet to work as a hydrant wrench. I had to go with the hydrojet cutter bc the D2 tool steel is case hardened and heat treated I know this bc my gunsmith/machinist didn’t have anything strong enough that could form the shape. This tool is a beast, I’ve had a hell of a time customizing it but it holds up to my abuse as a FF and a hobbyist.
I love this tomahawk design: functional and cool looking. The pouch it comes with is good too. D2 steel caused me some issues: there's a small dot in the handle where the coating is blemished and it keep forming rust even if I keep it oiled. A bad flaw for a 190 dollar tool.
